On-board pump/pressure switch

I was using my 'van at the weekend but had a problem with the water. The on-board pump could be heard running but no water was coming out of any of the taps, either hot or cold. The external pump had already filled the on-board tank. I took the on-board pump out and checked it in a jug of water and it worked perfectly. Is there a failure mode with the pressure switch which means it demands water but blocks the flow of water from passing through it? I tried adjusting the knob on the pressure switch in both directions, but it didn't make a difference. Perhaps it is not a pressure switch problem. (Taps do not have microswitches). Any suggestions please?

Van - 1998 Avondale Avocet.

On-board pump - Whale submersible 921 (self venting) new last year, and has been working OK.

Pressure Switch - Whale PS7207 Mk II (I notice new ones are marked WU7207).

Just to mention one possible thing. Has the bleed valve on the hot tank been opened (possibly accidentally) I went through half an aquaroll before I realised I hadn't closed the valve at the start of the season following the winter draindown.

I know you would probably have noticed by water under the van but we all miss the obvious sometimes!

Hope you crack it,

Rob

Rob - thankyou for your response. The hot water bleed valve had been checked and it was closed. I have bought a replacement pressure switch and hope to go over to the storage site tomorrow and fit it, hoping it will fix the problem. I will need to speak to the storage owner nicely to see if I can fill up an aquaroll to try the water system.

Here's hoping!!

Rob - just missed your other reply. Yes, the external pump appears to work as the water level in the external aquaroll goes down, and the meter on the control panel shows the internal tank filling up. It is a coincidence that the problem happened after the van had been in for a service!!!

There is no point in changing the pressure switch, it only switches the pump on.

And you did say the pump was running.

There is a possibly that the pump supply is short of volts, and pump running slow.

Woodlands Camper,

Seeing as this has only happened since the caravan was serviced, ring the people who serviced it.They should be able to help you and talk you through to a solution. It is surprising what can be fixed while in the caravan talking to the dealer on your mobile phone.

I have done it a few times.

I have changed the pressure switch this afternoon and the water system now works OK. On examining the old switch I see that it also includes a non-return valve which must have jammed in the closed position.

Thank you all for your interest and advice.
