Having had the 2.9 X-trail auto which returned 22 mpg solo and 18/20 towing 1350 klg its no contest i have the 2.0 dsg 140 bhp and get 42 mpg over 30000 miles which included 6000 towing, Yes the multi clutch is mentioned and turbo , but for your weight mentioned are you at the top end for your kerb weight? .

(1460kg van) Div (1540kg car) X 100 = 94% its getting close to 100% so be careful on packing the van. Also if you go for motor mover some of them are very heavy so this will add to your weight of the caravan.

Happy caravaning Steve.

The weight of a motor mover will not add anything to the calculation weights as this comes out of the caravan payload.

HI! Stephen yep you are right getting near to 100% but 1460kg is the max weight of the van but i do not intend to load it up to that figure .got a mover fitted last year 28kg so that has to come off the overall weight .my other queastion was how does the Passat fair for pulling , hill start. with the fancy handbrake .still getting used to it . what about fuel towing, solo. only had it 1 week seems good solo .getting towbar fitted on monday

Agreed that caravan movers add to the payload but that makes it worse as ours for single axle weighs 35 klg, which for our Coachman brings our usable payload for extra's to 24 klg.
