Peculiar gas flame in gas oven - anyone had this happen?

Hello all ... we noticed last weekend when we lit our gas oven in our Swift Challenger 570 that the gas flame was very orange, high, roaring and bright - quite the opposite to a quiet blue flame! The gas grill worked perfectly. Anyone had experience of this or any ideas as to what it could be? OH is a Chef and couldn't see anything on the oven burner. We have booked the van in for them to take a look in a few weeks (still under their warranty) and quite rightly we won't be using the oven until it's fixed. Just wondered if anyone else had has happen to them at all? Thanks Lisa.

Hi Lisa
I'm no expert but a normal well regulated lpg flame should burn a steady blue colour.
The orange is indicative of contamination either from food residue, grease, dust, cobwebs, insects etc and the best bet would be to have the gas system checked properly when the caravan is serviced.
Had the oven been unused for some time previously? The danger from a poorly regulated lpg flame could be a build up of dangerous carbon monoxide so be careful.

The orange flame is indicative of too much gas in relation to combustion air and could be caused by any of the items mentioned by Parksy, or a badly positioned burner.
Dont use it until it has been rectified as it will be producing very high levels of Carbon Monoxide.

Thank you to you both Parksy and Damian for replying. We have booked it in during half term and wouldn't have used the cooker at all as we are both very cautious about gas etc. I'm not sure what it could be but as it's still under their warranty - it will be over to them to sort it out for us and hopefully before we go off to Tredegar at the end of half term. Many thanks - Lisa.

The same thing happened to the rings on the hob on our last caravan trip and found it was caused by being too enthusuastic with a brillo pad when cleaning the top and some of the soap had got on the jets. I cleaned around the bottom of the burners with a washing up brush soaked in clear hot water, shaking most of the water off the brush, before brushing carefully around all the burners, rinsing the brush and shaking surplus water off as I went. A toothbrush may do the same thing. This eventually solved the problem and the jets burned their normal blue colour again.
I see that it's your OVEN flame that's not burning right, Lisa. As said previously, get it checked by a qualified gas engineer to be safe.

Hello all ... sorry not been able to post an update as we have been away and don't have access to a computer in our caravan! We took the van into our local dealer as it's still under their 12 month warranty and it was a ... cobweb on the burner! They showed my OH how to take it apart and clean so it shouldn't happen again, but as you say - much better to be safe than sorry so all's well that end's well (don't know if the spider suffered a speedy cremation though?).
