Phantom Tyre Protection

Caught some of a tv programme from the Caravan & Motorhome Exhibition on satellite tv a couple of nights back. There was a guy on from Phantom ( same company that does the tracking system) talking about another of their products which he reckoned was great for all vehicles including caravans. Seems you inject it into your tyres before they get a puncture then, when and if, you do get a puncture this gel immediately and permanently seals the hole. Claimed to last for the lifetime of the tyre. As an increasing number of car manufacturers now seem to produce vehicles with either a spacesaver tyre or a can of gunk to put in your already punctured tyre this product, in theory at least, seems a good idea.
Anyone tried it, does it do what it says on the tin? Thoughts or comments, particularly from anyone who has actually tried it would be interesting.

It is nothing new, people have been using it in Ride-on lawnmowers, atv's etc for over 20yrs, so if you want to try it, get down to your local lawnmower repairer, it will undoubtedly be cheaper, after all, it will not mention caravans on the label

As for 'does it work', well yes and no. Yes it works mostly, but at other times it doesn't, and when it doesn't, your local tyre dealer will not want to repair your tyre, even if it is repairable.

I would suggest this item is Must reading:

Liquid tyre sealants are possibly OK for a very temporary "Get Out Of Jail" to get you to a tyre depot, but only if it is a small puncture.
A sidewall blow out and tyre sealant will have gone with the air and be of no use whasoever.

As has been said, if tyre liquid is inside the tyre, no repairer will repair what could have been repairable if no sealant was present.

Thank you both for your thoughts. Damien thanks especially for the link. I had done a google search prior to posting looking for any reviews such as that but must have been using the wrong key words. The part from the AA website quoted below was something that I had thought about and did concern me more than a little.
Quote
"If the sealant works then the seal will be pretty much instantaneous after the tyre has been punctured. This raises the concern that you will have no idea whether there's been a puncture or not. A large screw or nail in the tread of the tyre will cause further damage over time and could lead to more catastrophic failure."

We are lumbered with their Tracker alarm unfortunately and I certainly would not give them any other business the way they talk to customers.

What's your problem with phantom?
They have always been very polite and professional when I have had any dealings with them
once I got my ear into the regional accent.

I cannot see that this could work for serious damage to the tyre such as a large cut on the side wall so a spare should always be carried.

Our alarm went faulty and when we spoke with their customer service I was spoken to by a gentleman as if I was something on the bottom of their shoe. Basically they were not interested and very dismissive. I appreciate that my contract is with the dealer, but I was trying to find a way to isolate the problem. The alarm kept triggering even though it wa switched off. I think there is another thread by a different poster who had the same problem.

That does not seem very professional
I must say. I would feel the same as you if I was treated in that fashion.
