Playing DVDs in van

We have a Sony MEX-DV1000 in our van multi disc player. When we put a DVD film in, we get the sound through the audio speakers above our head but no picture on the TV.

Are we meant to have a visual output i.e. be able to watch a DVD film in the van or have I got it wrong?

I believe the Sony MEX-DV1000 is a DVD video player so it is capable of playing via a suitable TV.

Have you connected a Yellow phono jack on the back of the radio to one on the TV?

I have a Pioneer DVD-video player and have connected all three phono jacks between it and the TV and it works fine. I have to set the TV's menu to A/V input for it to work. In this case the sound also is coming from the TV; it coming from there seems more natural that from behind my ears on the main speakers.

Newish van 2008 Coachman, it has never worked (probably due to us being technophobes). We tried taking the yellow plug from the auxillary from the dvd player which split into three red yellow and white sockets on the TV and that give us the audio through the speakers but no picture. We now assume the dvd player is connected to the red and white audio socket and yellow video socket so we will get a cable to connect and try to see if it will work. i.e. red, yellow white into red yellow white?

Hi Valerie, on my 2008 Coachman the socket outlets for the plugs are too close together and of course wouldn't fit so I had to shave some of the insulation off one side of 2 plugs to enable them to go in side by side. Now works fine.

Valerie,

The red and white phono connections transmit the two stereo sound signals the yellow transmits the picture signal.

As I said before with it connected up you then need to tell the TV via its menu to use that signal input, in my case its the one titled "A/V".

Cheers John
