There appears to be many postings on this forum knocking the police as it appears they are only after the motorist and to hell with serious crime. The unformed branch are there to see law and order is adhered to in generaland are generally the front line of approach. For the more serious crimes such as robbery, rape, murder, etc. the C.I.D. are resposible for solving these. C.I.D. are generally plain clothes officers and could even be undercover dressed to mingle with society in any walk of life. The rank and file member of society would therefore not recognise these.

The situations the police have to deal with such as fatal road accidents, etc. would turn many people, I for one could not handle it or to tell the next of kin of their family's loss. I have no connections with the police force in any way but think that the majority of them are doing an excellent job when you consider the flack they have to take from yobs, etc. and also the soul desroying paper work associated with their job.

Colin you are so right, not to mention being spat at and bitten by drug addicts.Police Station cells being covered in excrament by custodys.

Head butted, kicked, punched and verbally abused, having to clean up their sick,s**t and urine.

Risk catching head lice, scabies and everything else you can imagine,we have all caught something at one time or another.

I could go on and on but won't bore you.

I will leave you with this thought, next time anyone stands next to a cop and you start to feel an itch or the urge to scratch your head...beware!!!!!!!!!!!

Due to the vast amount of paperwork and time involved when apprehending villians.

It is much simplier to nick motorists, just rubber stamping

the forms, O.k the motorist if breaking the law is guilty,

It is the parking attendants employed by the council that are in general loathed (on commission)., in my town they are compelled to go around in pairs, they are so disliked and

unreasonable, I quote in centre of town woman drives into rear of car, damage to both, holds up traffic, one parking attendant directs woman into bus layby, other car not a problem, while swapping details etc., his colleague slaps a ticket on the car, for parking in a bust stop, he was nearly lynched, Can't rip up ticket once issued was his reply.

And yes they do hide waiting to pounce,

Before all you never done anything wrong jump up, there has to be give an take within reason.

Why are mobile speed cameras hidden on clean and clear straight stretches of road, if not to raise money

I am involved in a local youth group, meeting with the local bill, we have a group of bodies known as the druggies, shop lift etc., always wads of notes for their ciders and strong beers, at one meeting I questioned why a stronger attitude was not taken especially as they attract a cotterie of young people, The answer it not worth the trouble, arresting them is no deterent, they have no assets so a fine is of no use, prison means new clothes, a wash and brush up, dental or medical treatment meet old friends.

As mentioned earlier the local coppers are great as are the traffic police.

here endeth the first lesson.

Tina,

that must be in England,up here in Scotland as from 1st Nov all D+I's must be checked out by ambulance crew at locus to determine if they are drunk, when confirmed as such ,they are then brought to the Police station by the police and thereafter in our care. This is a pilot scheme, before this they all came straight to the station.

No disrespect to ambulance/hospital staff but when police are dealing with drunks, druggies and mental cases we tend to end up with them, sometimes for the whole weekend for court on Monday.

Forever going into the cell to put them in the recovery position incase they are sick as they are usually unconcious with the effects of alcohol or drugs.

Can be quite stressful if you have an average of 20 or so on an average weekend night, some as young as 13years old.

I am sure this will not be news to you, as you folks are at the coalface as they say.

Hi john.b

gosh yes ! A totally different system and one I dont think fair!! Police are there to sort out crime, medical staff for medical care and I dont think its right police are having to "babysit" a cell, ! why not have an officer at the hospital ready for arrest when idiot is capable !. We did have a caes where someone in a cell choked and died on thier own vomit! of course it was the polices fault, not the w"""rs for pouring it down his neck in the first place, it went to a huge court case, maybe thats why here police are(rightly so) not taking them in! The state I've seen some people at hospital only to wake up a cpuple of hours later and sod off home leaving everyone else to clean up thier bodily functions! Its not medical staff job or the polices,if you did it at home you'd ahve to clean it up! copy the taxis and CHARGE THEM financially for taking ambos/police/nurses off duty !!

Hi Tina,

agree totally,we also have an observation cell, which is used for custodys threatning to commit suicide,we then have to observe constantly and if we need the loo, someone has to take over till we return...crazy.

The police doctor is called to access,he will recommend taking custody to hospital,99 times out of a hundred custody returns to us with a note requesting that we continue constant observation.

I am a qualified first aider not a phychiatrist or trained medical professional and we to have had a custody choke on his own vomit and die.

If the general public only knew how we look after their little darlings after a night out on the p**s and of course with the parents of juveniles..well its not there fault, have'nt the police anything better to do,go and catch some criminals..just leave my 13 yr old lying on the street to get raped, die of hypothermia etc...phew!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh..well off to work with a smile, never a dull moment.........

We were always being called out by the police to people who were parylytically drunk. They didn't want to be responsible for them and rightly so. Neither did the A&E units want them but we had no choice, we had to take them there because if we left them and they choked on their own vomit or were found dead later from hypothermia our heads would have been on the block. It was a case of pass the buck, we dont want them. I could never apologise enough to casualty staff when admitting drunks and its going to get worse. I remember the time it was a fine for drunk and disorderly but there is too much paper work now and idiots like the CPS to contend with. What the hell I'm moaning for I dont know because I'm out of it now :O) and I stay away from town on the weekends.

Colin & others - couldn't agree more with the support for the boys in blue, who have a very difficult job to do, but, and there's always one isn't there? the greatest complaint us persecuted, overtaxed motorists have is that there aren't enough traffic police on our roads to stop the most appalling driving as often reported on these threads. Speed cameras irritate most of us whose job requires them to drive many miles per annum, and all they do is raise cash for the LA as many are placed on open safe roads. I've never exceeded the limit in towns and villages as kids or dogs/cats etc could suddenly run into the road, but on a long straight A road or dual carriageway in light traffic conditions in clear dry weather then yes I have exceeded the limit like all the other cars in front of and behind me, the one at the front suddenly brakes when he sees the yellow money maker. It's when the police join in with their mobile hand held guns, even on motorways that public support vanishes, and potential accidents can easily occur. Ever noticed the bunching that goes on when a squad car is on the m/way? And before the self-righteous comment can any one say they have NEVER exceeded the m/way or A road limits - honestly? And yes I do have far too many points on my licence for doing 70mph in a 60 limit, or 80mph in a 70 limit, so I have had to slow down and be more alert to yellow boxes and policemen with radar guns, which is a huge distraction. So lets have more policing, but with real officers catching the idiots. When I first started driving in 1969, a well experienced and sensible traffic cop pulled me over for breaking the limit, told me off and let me go with a strong verbal warning. Speed Cameras don't have such discretion. Rant over
