Hi all.

I had a phone call tonight from PCM regarding renewing my subscription with an offer of three magazines for £3 instead of £9. I agreed to this and then he wanted my address and bank details. I then started to get suspicous and refused to take the offer as these details should be on record. He said these details are not kept on record because of data protection. Has anyone else had a phone call like this regarding suscription offers?

Thanks,

Phil.

A similar post came up a few weeks back and I checked with Haymarket and the call was genuine.

I will check with admin in the morning and get back to you.

Do you pay your subs by DD or was it a one off cash payment?

Haymarket haven't offered me a "special".

My policy nowadays is not accept any offer made to me by telephone, unless I have previously requested it. I always state that if they are serious, then send me the offer in writing. That way I have time to read it carefully and usually, bin it.

I was however amused to be offered a new conservatory. The guy was a bit embarassed when I stated I lived on the 3rd floor.

Admin has replied to my email to say that if a previous subscription was paid using direct debit as soon as the the old direct debit is cancelled any bank details are automatically removed from the system.

Details are not allowed to remain on file for safety reasons.

The new subscription offer is genuine and is available via dd only.

I got a call a while back from my bank, and they asked security questions before going any further, the call centre guy was a little bemused when I asked HIM security questions about my account, ie number of DD`s, approx deposits every month etc.

When all where answered correctly only then did I proceed, he did see the funny side of things, but at least I knew HE was genuine.

have used this system since, and only once has a caller put the phone down, I often wonder did I have a lucky escape. :)
