I decided in early July to take out a subsciption by direct debit, I was promised a free valet kit to do so however the DD was taken the mags are now being delivered but no free gift after several phone calls I have now been told that Haymarket have at the momment blocked these from going out as they are not happy with the amount being ordered,NOT MY PROBLEM but they did enter into a contract with me and have failed to keep there side of the bargain I have tried to find a phone number to the publisher but to no avail only an email address I wonder why they will not speak to there customers directly I allways thought Micheal Hesletine built this business on good service but obviously thats not the situation these days.

Hope there isn't a problem as we are waiting for ours too! I phoned and was told that it could be sent within 28 days of the first direct debit being taken.

This happened with a subscription to another magazine we ordered and we eventually received some tacky useless gadget in place of what was promised. I hope this isn't going to be the case with Practical Caravan.

A decision to subscribe is often made on the offer of a free gift and they shouldn't promise what they can't deliver.

Perhaps Nigel Donnelly would be able to look into it and let us know what's happening?

Dear all

I am the publishing director of Practical Caravan and think I can clear this up.

Stephen: I'm not sure who told you that we are unhappy with the number of orders we've got to process, but nothing could be further from the truth. Let me reassure you that good, honest service remains very important to us.

There are two reasons for the delay which I am most sorry about, but I will explain:

1. We have recently had a delay in obtaining more stock from Autoglym. It is a very popular gift used on a number of Haymarket titles, and demand has been unexpectedly high. We are working very hard to fix this ASAP.

2. Some of the delay may be in some small part due to the fact that we have recently changed the company which administers subscriptions on our behalf. The new supplier is doing a great job, but inevitably change does cause some disruption.

Could I ask that any of you who feel you are not getting answers contact me directly. My email address is andrew.golby@haymarket.com or call me on 0208 267 5255. I'm always happy to speak with readers and will follow up individual problems.

We all work very hard here to create a great magazine, so getting it (and your gifts) into your hands is the least we can do...

Best

Andrew

Hi, As we have decided to become caravanners and having had a recomendation to buy the Practical Caravan magazine, I purchased the August issue. In it they offered the Alan Rogers Camping & Caravan Guides if you subscribed, which I subsequently did by telephoning. They explained that they had run out and were not sure what was happening. I said Ok with this, no doubt they would sort it out and I waited. At this stage I have not received the special offer, or any comment on what is likely to happen. As we are about to go on holdiday I had decided to wait and chase it when I come back, however from your comments it looks like it may be a long wait.

This makes me a bit nervous. We took out a subscription in August, when the free gift was a pair of tickets to the NEC in October. We wouldn't have taken the subscription if it wasn't for the offer of the tickets, the deal for six months of magazines was cheaper than we'd pay for the tickets even with CC discount.

The acknowledgement letter was dated 1st Sept but no mention of tickets. The DD money has been taken out. So far no magazine.

We are now two weeks from the event and in view of what has been said in this thread plus the current postal strike (making the post very slow in our area) we think this week we'd better start seeking some reassurance that we will be getting the tickets.

We've paid for two nights hotel stay (no van at the moment), we just want to know we'll have the tickets as well. At least the company handling the subscription is only in Sittingbourne, about eight miles from us.

I've subscribed for years by DD and been given nothing.

I shall cancel soon and rejoin and maybe get a freebe? On the other hand it's a real shame Haymarket don't recognise loyalty as well as a new customer. Ugrrr.

Cheers

Received my Autoglym kit today but marked LTD QTY and when I looked at what you get if you buy the Autoglym kit,I have been supplied with a smaller shampoo,no tar remover, bumper care or fast glass and some window polish included. Its still good as a free gift as I would have bought P.C. anyway but a little misleading I think.Still at least its here.

I too am suffering from the long await Autoglym kit after ordering the mag in July.

After 3 phone calls and being told twice that the package had been despatched and must have been hijacked enroute by the local postmen because of its attractive contents, they have agreed to send another one out and this time even suggested disguising the packaging.

Surely enough is enough Practical Caravan, you have taken my money out of my account so its time you deliver the goods.

Please keep the emails and phone calls coming to me direct and I will do all I can to resolve your problem as fast as possible. This is not our usual style, though I completely understand the frustration from those of you who have been kept waiting too long.

We now have fresh supplies of Autoglym, so any of you waiting for that particular gift really shouldn't be waiting too long now.

On behalf of all of us, please accept our sincere apologies.

Best

Please see below an update which has just been sent to me by our head of subscriptions. Although officially there have been no postal strikes, unofficially it appears that disruption has already begun. This may explain some of the problems noted in this thread. I wasn't previously aware of this, but we'll keep you in touch.

Andrew

POSTAL STRIKE - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The recent unofficial strike actions by postal workers across the country has led to widespread disruption to deliveries over the last few weeks (it is estimated that over 10million pieces of mail are currently delayed); you may have received one or more of your subscription copies later than usual.

As a result, the volume of calls and emails in to our customer service team has been significantly larger than usual. We have drafted in additional staff to deal with this increase in demand and the backlog of enquiries - please be assured that your query is important to us and we will strive to address it as quickly as possible.

As you may have seen in the press, Royal Mail workers have now voted in favour of official strike action, which will inevitably cause further significant delays to deliveries. We are currently reviewing the alternative options available to us and will attempt to keep disruption to a minimum.

Thank you for your patience.
