I know a lot of Brits travel through Belgium to get elsewhere, especially into Germany. Not only are the motorways very busy as said in the article they are often not well maintained and once off the motorways is often even worse! However there lots of places worth a visit in Belgium. Bruges, although no doubt the locals call it Brugge, is well known but Gent is equally impressive if not more so. I think the Ardennes are worth thinking about although this heavily forested area is prone to be a bit damp!!!

Thanks for the post, klyne. You're right, it seems to be a place people pass through rather than visit, but, as you also say, there are lots of great things to do there, so maybe we can encourage more people to holiday in Belgium itself. In fact, as one reader told us in a recent blog on our website, he and his family found a lot more to love in Belgium than they'd ever expected – click here to read his blog.
