Preparing 'van for use after long lay up

We have not used our caravan for about 18 months. We bought a motorhome and have been using that extensively during that time. We dithered about selling the caravan, but it has been given a 'stay of execution' as we have now decided to take it on a trip to Spain during February and March. It has been stored with a cover on it; with de-humidifiers inside, and with an oil filled radiator switched on during the coldest weather.

Apart from a service, what other advice can anyone offer in order to prepare it?

One thing does need attention: the shower tray has a crack in it. Is it psooible to repair this? Has anyone succeeded in doing so? Or is replacement the better option?

Hi Sian, welcome to the Practical Caravan forum.
Your best bet would be to buy a replacement shower tray imho but no doubt somebody will be along later who will tell you how to effect a repair.
Make sure that everything works as it should, the water system including the boiler, the gas system and the electrics including the battery charger and leisure battery. Check that the tyres are ok, even though there may be plenty of tread left the sidewalls can begin to deteriorate after five or six years.
Give the caravan a good airing, address any issues shown up by the servicing and enjoy your trip!

Thank you.

We had new tyres fitted in June 2010, just before the last trip we did, when the 'van was 5 years old. Hoping that they will still be OK. I await more repsonses re shower tray with anticipation! I'd like to get a new one; husband is convinced he can repair it!
