While the objective is admirable, the best protest you can give is at a General Election. If you can get the nearly 50% of the electorate to vote, who didn't last time round, then you may get the Government elected by the people, for the people. Not the self serving non-people currently occupying Westminster/Holyrood.

Personally, I am quite happy with the cost of motoring, which has actually gone DOWN in real terms (i.e. after inflation) over recent years.

I drive a Range Rover, and do at least 15,000 a year, but I consider the cost perfectly reasonable.

The answer to keeping motoring costs down is not to buy a new car.

Us with the large 4x4's who genuinely need them to tow the ever increasing caravan weights (Im only 32 but i distinctly remember caravans being pulled (legally or otherwise) by bog standard Ford Sierra's...

We get tarred with the same brush as those people who buy the biggest Range Rover/ Shogun/ etc purely to look good as the mummy uses it twice a day to drop young Tarquin off at school 5 minutes away and cannot be bothered walking...(and probably too concerned over the sheer amount of fumes Tarquin's friends parents equally huge tanks are churning out!!!)

What do you mean "us with large vans need a 4x4?"

You have no more need, or right, to drive a 4x4 than mummy who wants to drive her children to school in one.

Why should caravanners, who are as guilty as anybody of the inefficient use of fuel, dictate to others what they should do?

Neither of you is doing anything illegal and are free to drive what you like.
