PT Cruiser no lights on van?

During the return journey from a site today my daughter following me informs me that the brake lights aren't working. Tried the indicators and they fail as well! As we were only a mile from home I carried on and then tested the car with a small trailer. Same results - no lights at all on the trailer!

I have since tested the aux socket on the car and that's fine, lights work in the van and battery shows as charging. Looks like a fuse has gone but where? The twin electrics were fitted by a local dealer who no longer deals with Chrysler.

Any ideas anyone as to where to start?

Len,

If all of the road lights have failed, then that points to a common failure - such as:

1. A break in the return wire (which some people insist on calling "earth") in the car 12N socket or it's attachment to the car body.

2. The car might have been wired with a relay board to activate the lights - either the common power to the relay or the common power switched by the relay could have become disconnected.

3. Or the fuse protecting the common power supply could have blown - you'll need a multi-meter to trace this - or just start checking each fuse, one at a time

If you find that ScotchLoks were used to splice the caravan loom and the fault was a loose wire - then replace the ScotchLoks with quality power connectors.
