Whilst we were away last week I was making up the bed for the night and heard a loud 'crack' - One of the bed slats had snapped (there was a knot in the wood and it had snapped there) Does any one know how best to replace it? Can they be bought individually or will the whole strip have to be replaced. The caravan is an 8 year old Elddis Hurricane.

Shouldn't be too difficult to take a short piece of the broken slat and find a suitable replacement in a DIY store. If the slats are held together by canvas strips they may be stapled or screwed from underneath.

We did think about that John Douglas but the cutting of the length would have to be very precise, 1mm wrong either way and it wouldn't work.

Paul, i think probably that might be the best option, as you say, they are shaped.

Thanks to both of you for your input.

I agree, no need to buy an Elddis part as there is nothing special about them. It is shocking that they used flawed wood in these. Same think happened to me (again because of a knot) with one of the wooden slots supporting a front seat in my Bailey Ranger. My caravan was brand new and under warranty, but it would have cost me more in fuel and inconvenience to return the caravan to the dealer for a warranty repair, so I just did it myself. I am confident that my slot is the strongest one in the caravan.

PS it is very easy to cut it to the right length (yes even to a mm).

Rupert, i was making up the bed..........honest lol

It seems the jury is still out on the best way to deal with this. I did speak to the dealer who suggested i gave them the cris number and they would then contact Elddis to see if they still stocked that part but i haven't done it yet.

Think there might be a trip to B&Q, see what they have to offer as regards a plank.

Thanks for all the suggestions

Why not replace the broken one with one from the inner end and replace that with timber from a DIY store

Its better to go to a timber yard where they have knowledge of wood rather than just retail
