hi all

please could someone advise me.

we have an avondale mayfly bought last year and was lovely. however at the end of the year the water stopped working both hot and cold. the gas boiler for hot water wasnt filling up either.

my suspect is the pump but know very little on how/where to check. i did inspect the pump and the hose connecting was a little loose.

what would be the best routine to find what the main problem is.

sorry to be so long winded. any advice?

regards

Connect the pump straight to a 12 volt supply (only for a few seconds to see if it works).

If it does work, then check the housing connectors on the van for loose/corroded pins/wires.

First an foremost, check the fuse for the water pump.

gary, what type of pump do you have? Is it the type that plugs into a housing on the van and drops into an aqua roll or some permanently fitted one?

Gary, I know the type. It is very easy to change, I once disconnected one on site for a friend who had gone out and left the pump running. When all the water had gone it was jumping about in the barrel. I did it all from outside the van.

If my memory is correct there are 4 screws holding the housing to the van. Remove these and the housing can be pulled from the van. The wires fit into a srew terminal and the hose with a jubilee clip.

Whilst you have got the housing out it is a simple job to confirm the 12v supply is getting to the housing with a meter or test lamp.

If its just pump faulty, then you dont have to change the whole unit (eg pipes and connecter) just the pump itself (easy job).

Towsure have them, as do accesory shops & ebay.

hi all.

thanks for the help. i found the problem. as you said i took the pump off and tried it on the car battery. dead. so i thought i wonder if the spindle had got some debris stuck. so i used a fine screwdriver to turn the mechanism and it was jammed but eventually broke free and whizzed. although it works now i went to our local caravan shop and an identicle whale 881 submergable pump was
