Hi Ive bought a second hand awning (1year old)Ive managed to set it up but can any one tell me if there should be a set of clamps on the front roof bars?

I think its a 950 size. it has the usual three uprights at the front, with three roof bars which plug into the joints, it also has two supplimentary roof bars which clip onto the front roof bar.

The roof bar itself is made up of two bars on each side with a clamp however there is an additional smaller bar which plugs into one side but does not have a clamp which means its free to slide and appears to be tensioned by the awning storm guys.In other words if you were to push either side of the awning it could move up to 1/2 mtr. Are there two clamps missing?

Derek,

I had exactly the same situation with a Pyramid Corsican (they use the same poles) - I wasn't happy as I thought it was a) too prone to movement, and b) it allowed the roof to sag and collect water.

My answer was to buy two clamps - not sure what you would call them (they were for tents I think), basically they are a circular metal strap with a thumbscrew that tightens against the pole - I simply slipped it over the narrower pole, tensioned the awning out and then tightened the clamp in place at the point that it enters the larger diameter pole - bingo it can no longer slide up inside and I can use the normal adjustment on the extending pole to get final tension.

I got them from ebay - only cost a couple of quid.

Probably badly explained but hope this helps

Hi,

I have just built my Pyramid Tuscany awning for the first time and found exactly the same issue.

Definetly a design flaw. I will need to invest in a couple of clamps for next time.

Hi,

Update on awning poles, I have ordered and fitted 2 "Dorema EASYGRIP Speed Lock Clamps for Awning Poles 25mm", These do just the job for securing any sideways movement on the Awning frame. fitted perfectly.

Hi Ive managed to work out the problem, if you look at the rail you will see if you have assembled it wrong as we did the poles slide in and out, but if you turn the poles the other way so they slide into the outer ends on the uprights, and the clamps go on the "inner ends" its held tight,I hope that makes sense :)
