Hi All,

Please would someone tell me ,when towing one's caravan do you press the 12volt caravan light and appliances switch to the car sign or do you leave it in neutral and if you put it to the car sign does that mean that battery is being charged as you go along.I hope I'm not labelled as thick but this does bug me somewhat. Many thanks.Jim

An ex gaffer of mine towed his van with the 12v electrics switch in the on position (cant remember if it was to car or van), he stopped after about an hour on the motorway services for a break & luckly went into the van.

He was confronted by smoke & found that the electric cables were melting due to a short circuit.

He took the van to a dealer who had to rewire the damaged cables, but told him to always issolate the 3 way switch when towing, so that the only live feeds are to the fridge & battery

"He took the van to a dealer who had to rewire the damaged cables, but told him to always issolate the 3 way switch when towing, so that the only live feeds are to the fridge & battery" - how is this done?

The more I read about this damn 3-way switch, the more I'm confused!

Hi, the van switch is for using your onboard leisure battery, the car switch is for when you want to run the van from your car (if your leisure battery goes flat) for towing put it in the middle, best of luck.
