What a good idea I thought!

I use the www extensively for business and so I thought what an excellent way to save time money and petrol travelling to my main post office to tax a vehicle.

WRONG!

Last week the system was "being maintaned" and now after page one an "error has occured".

Just like any other government based website this is their latest fiasco.

Has anybody managed to use it successfully?

I won't bother again! I will just enjoy a trip out!

Yes I used it last week to tax by bike and it was brilliant. Got bike MOT'd went home, straight onto web and taxed it. All details re mot and insurance were on record within seconds of completion. I think you must be unlucky, or the traffic is getting to heavy

Sorry Clive done all three of my cars in the last two months this year and last, strait forward each time and very quick turn round I might add.

It must be you ;o)

I think our next car is up for renewal in December so i will try again then. Perhaps a bit earlier would help.

Clive,

Just retaxed my car via the web - it worked a dream - no problems, no queues, and the disc arrived next morning.

I also have the pleasure of completing an on-line inland revenue tax assessment each year - and that works without issue as well.

Clive,

Simplicity in it's self .... The website that is. The wife tax both our cars recently, worked both times

At least you didn't get the famous "fatal error"

Your absolutely right ! "I am to clever for you"

Just taxed my commuter car online last week, the tax disc then arrived the next day.

But forgot to display it on 1st June, Doh.

Lucky for me the wooden tops were all fast asleep as usual.

There are many goverment web sites out there which are simple to use. Like any other web site you will find it down from time to, but overall it seems to a well liked method for taxing vehicles.

This site is okay if your insurance doesn't run out close to the end of the month of tax renewal - if so it won't let you use the service.

Also, one point to bear in mind is that this is just another nail in the coffin of the Post Offices. They currently supply tax discs (amongst other things) - no tax disc sales = less use = closed!

had not thought of that Neil - but round here I use the main PO - no problem but parking is a problem.

The two other sub-postoffices that are out in the sticks cannot for some reason do cartax anyway.

Which I agree is a real shame as I would far rather use a small local business.
