Hi,

I know these have been discussed before but as I have finally got mine sorted out I thought I would share some pics as they might show how (or how not) to do so !

Apologies for length of post but I feel some explanation is needed.

I was loathe to drill the back of the van as I didn't want to cause any problems with water ingress warranty so originally I mounted the camera inside the van looking out the back window but found a)I got stray reflections, b)The black windows caused the colours to change on the picture, and c)The night vision LED's on the camera reflected off the window and 'blinded' the camera.

My solution has been to sandwich the camera mount between two pieces of plastic card and then using very strong adhesive tape 'glue' the mount to the back of the van (it has just been on an 800 mile round trip and hasn't moved at all) - the cables go through the back window (I found that I could close the window without straining it as the rubber seal was sufficiently thick to accept the cable compressing it), the camera cables pug into a four core cable that then goes down through a floor vent and is then cable gripped to the main electric cable for the length of the van - I have used a normal 7 pin connecter to bridge the gap to the car.

Inside the car the cables run to the monitor under the sill plates - I am intending to resite the monitor on the dash on the nearside so that I can see mirror and camera at the same time.

Overall it has worked out fine, as when I overtake I can see that I am clear to pull in even before a helpful truck driver flashes me - the monitor also has a second camera linked to it that allows me to see the towball so that hitching up is also easy !

PS The picture quality on the monitor is much better than it appears in the pic !

Hi

I also use a rear view camera and dont know how I ever managed without. I currently mount mine on a bike rack and like you pass the cable through the window. I have also previously mounted it inside the van without problems (possibly as the window was clear.)It is such an improvement to visibility when towing, pitching, checking signals etc that I dont know why they are not fitted as standard by manufactures..

Ps like the photos

Hi - rear view cameras are esential.... for more than one reaseon .. I am mean (so the wife says) so my rear view camera is not a "proper" one, it's a hd mountain bike camera that links to a media player on the dash. It's always on and records everything. We parked up at the services on the M1 and after a while saw someone near our van through the window of the little Chef. Chased them off, reviewed the footage and presto. We got 3 young lads on camera (with sound) trying to unhitch our van, with the registration of the van they were going to use to drive it away!! and their names!!!! A Brilliant investment!!!! I got it from ebay btw :O)

I fixed a short length of fascia board to the roof with silicon and fixed the camera bracket to that, then ran the lead inside the offside awning channel.

Andy,

Got it from www.reversingcamerasuk.com - they also have an ebay shop. As to the make, the two cameras and the screen are all different, have a look at his website and if you have any questions just drop him an email he is very helpful !

Cheers

Jon
