I have 2 kids aged 6 and 3 who are obsessed with playgrounds. Can anyone recommend a site with excellent playground facilities. A pub on-site or close by would be a bonus! We live near Derby and are looking to travel for around an hour each way as it will just be a weekend break.

David, have a look at Blackwall Plantation Caravan Club site near Ashbourne. There is a play area on site but the visitor centre at Carsington Water is within walking distance. There is a great play area there for kids of all ages. Keeps ours amused for hours. Nice site too. There is a pub on the circular Carsington Water walk but mite be a bit far if your kids arent very old. Only 5 mins in the car though.

I can also recommend Callow Top, a really well run site. It has its own pub and even brews its own beers. Really good playground and the Tissington trail runs virtually through the site so take your bikes. In the summer you can drink on the big green in front of the pub and they lay on a childrens entertainer doing the congo etc. You can also see the playground from the green. Oh forgot to mention that it also has a swimming and paddling pool. We tend to visit at least a couple of times a year and have not had a bad experience yet.
