Removing tar

Drove down a road the other day and managed to get a very small amount of tar on the front panel of the van.

Dabbed with white spirit which has improved it but still a small brown stain.

Any ideas?

You could try a clay bar.

There are specialist tar removers at Halfords etc, I wouldn't recommend white spirit in case it damages the panel.

Auto-Glym polish removes the tar spots from my car but because its an abrasive cleaner its probably not recommended for vans.

And old old trick to remove tar is try rubbing on with a soft cloth butter

Auto-Glym do a tar remover, I've personally used it a few times on the cars to remove tar and I tihink a couple of times on the caravan to remove tar from when the road was being resurfaced. I would say tat it works well and is not abrasive like the polish may be. Just re-polish the affected/cleaned area after use, and it will look as good as new.

I got mine I believe from the local Vauxhall dealer (well the wife did) but I feel sure that it is on sale at Halfords.

Eucalyptus oil removes tar.

Always use parrafin on the cars paint and wheels.

Butter, as mentioned above, or olive oil.

I always have a small tin of lighter fluid handy. It will remove tar, grease etc easily and does not stain.
