Rewired 12N connector and got an odd fault - Help!

Had to disconnect and reconnect the cabling on both sockets yesterday to replace the carrying bracket. Reconnected exactly as before and everything works except when I put on the right indicator the repeater buzzer sounds and the dash lights flash along with the indicator! If I switch the lights (side or main) on it works as normal. If I take out the green RH indicator lead to terminal 4 everything works as normal. Bit mystified and will go through everything later but if you recognise the symptoms, I'd love to know!

Thanks,

Steve

Are you sure there are no hidden loose wires short circuiting? The earth is good?

Maybe it's just a faulty socket unit?

Cheers

Thanks Dustydog,

It's the same socket - just disconnected cable, rethreaded through new bracket and reconnected - but I suspect when I do check I'll find a single strand that's escaped and is shorting somewhere.

Will probably check in the morning and let you know.

hi stephen

I think you may have sussed the problem in your last post ie a rouge wire shorting out I had a similar problem a couple of years ago while re-wiring a motor bike.

one strand of wire stopped the the engine firing it was a devil to find but on recomendation from a electrician friend started to tin all the wires with solder before connection to plug /switch ect and I have never had any futher problems it is easy to do and cost very little and prevents any chance of a frayed wire shorting something out.
