Greetings

HOW MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am appalled that the Caravan Club has the nerve, temerity and outright gall to charge people £25 per night per unit for a temporary site to visit the Birmingham Exhibition in February 2009. Do they honestly believe that £25 represents good value?

Whilst I appreciate that I am a Yorkshireman (and proud of it) with a Scottish mother (even prouder) which means I've had all the generosity in me squeezed out, I cannot find words that express my abhorrence with an Organisation that would seek to take advantage of fellow campers, caravanners and motorhomers.

And please dont tell me that that includes EHU.. I wouldn't pay £25 in summer, at a four star site, with all the bells and whistles.

I'm not even convinced that every person on that pitch will have paid £25 but it will keep the 'riff raff' out.

PS I apologise in advance but I have also posted this thread on other forums because, quite frankley I'm BL**DY seething

I am guessing, but I think it may be down to the NEC and the price they have charged the CC for the area (which would normally be a car park)in which the overnighters would be staying.

Perhaps the NEC managers have not heard that we are in a financial downturn yet?,or do they know something we do not?

Too right Parksy.

In fact I'm not going this year to Birmingham.

I'm going with my 'van to the SouthWest Caravan and Motorhome Exibition at Westpoint, Exeter where The Devon and Cornwall Centre of the Cararavan Club have a rally.

For a Tenner a night I get FREE Entry to every day of the exhibition, enjoy the hospitality and entertainment on offer at the show and get to see my mates.

Thats what I call value.

Hi Del

As Damian has said, it's probably not the fault of the CC that the price is high.

The only way to deal with prices that we consider to be over the top is to vote with our feet whether it's for pitch fees, supermarket prices or for fuel.

Enjoy the Southwest c&m exhibition.

Why does anyone pay to visit what effectively is a glorified shop? This has crept in over the years, and that is why there has been such an increase of exhibitions and exhibition organisers over the years. It is not just caravans either. Almost every conceivable item that you can think of, now has some sort of exhibition, and people are soft enough to pay money for the priveledge of exposing themselves to massed sales techniques ! Those taking part would like to have you believe that it is all a great jolly, and worth paying for, but it isn't.... it is a very concerted effort to get you to open your wallet, and you pay them to try !!

Expect it is true that it is the NEC not the CC ripping us off.

Regarding the CC sub. I think it is very reasonable for all the benefits you get.

Free UK Sites Directory, Route planning, monthly magazine which is equally as good as any you can buy. Bookings for Channel Crossings cheaper than you get anywhere and a good deal with Camping Cheques. Cannot see what you are moaning at.

I agree with you its great value for money, by the way if you were to see what the hotels charge at the NEC it makes the CC site look cheep.

hi all.im now going to throw a spanner in the works

im a hgv driver and now and again the firm i work for hauls the stands for exhibitons and we do a lot down to the nec.now because of the time that most exhibitions finish and by the time that the stands have been pulled down it is getting late to go anywhere....so the nec allow hgvs to park on the lorry park for free for the night

i know that this has absolutely nothing to do with this thread but i thought i would just have a say and a grin :)

With all the arguments as to whether it is the NEC or CC being responsible for the charging for caravans, there is still one major point to bear in mind.

If you do not want to pay the price being charged, do not stay there, simple as that.

No one is forcing anyone to pay what they consider to be an unreasonable price, the facility is there if you want it,or not as the case may be.

Last year when the C & C C ran the site it was a lot cheaper but we didn't have restaurant, bar and 'entertainment' which I need like a hole in the head.

HI Guys

We stayed at the C&CC Kingsbury Water Park Site and only paid our normal out of season price with all the facilities still open. Plus it was only a 10 minute blast down the motorway to the NEC.

As previously posted, you have freedom of choice to pay or not.Whoever is either making money or subsidising the thing is irrelevant. There are a lot more more costs involved than simply letting a piece of tarmac and I doubt the CC see it as a way of making money. Why choose the hassle of a risky venture when they have plenty of other ways they could increase revenue without taking a gamble

I do think that these sort of Show events are totally overpriced though. The NEC charges a fortune for hall rental but the show organisers have the right to set rental charges for stands and entrance fees for visitors. In addition they hope to get sponsorship from whoever might think it is appropriate to be associated with the show. The whole event can be quite a money spinner if the event is a success.

Bearing in mind we have a recession I would imagine there are less people prepared to buy new vans, less people therefore interested in going and less trade stands and sponsors prepared to spend money on an unknown return.

It doesn't make sense to me that if you go to the Ideal home Exhibition or Caravan Show you can pay to spend hours queing to look around a van or house whereas go to your local dealers or show home and you will probably get offered a free drink and personal service ! As for special show deals, I think you can negotiate an equally good one at the dealership.

Just a tip - some of the Travelodges (and similar hotels) are now offering promotional prices at some of their hotels. We've just booked to stay near the NEC for two nights, at

I don't know how much it cost to build the NEC but the money has to be recovered somehow.

by the way 100% agree with your post
