Road to Yorks?

Next week we head north to Ravenscar for a well earned break. Googlemaps recommends taking the A47 from Norwich via Kings Lynn and up through Lincs' and over the Humber Bridge. Now I was quite happy until my wife's friend showed absolute disgust that I was considering this route. She is of the opinion that this road should be avoided. I would like to use this road as it saves quite a few miles.

Question is, does anyone have an opinion on this road, is it that bad?

Regards.

Norman

I would travel up the A47 to Kings Lynn pick up the A17 to Newark and then straight up the A1 turning off on the A64 to York. It will be alot quicker than going up the A15 through Lincoln.

Saving miles is not always the most econimcal route. Going up gears down gears. Slow down, Speed up, Clutch in Clutch out Etc Etc Twisty , winding roads not to mention the most difficult part of being stuck behind a slow moving vehicle or even being the slow moving vehicle. I am happy to add 20 or 30 miles to my journey if it means an easier tow and a better road.

Steve...thanks for that.

I have looked at your route and will be doing it.

Normally most routes from here go Via Cambridge to pick up the road north...your route saves around 60 miles.

Many thanks.

Norman.

I would definately go with Steve's route. The A17 is a trek from Kings Lynn to A1, but it much better than going via Lincoln!

We always use this route on ours travels northward. :O)

Avoid the A64 past York at busy times, especially Saturday, it can take an hour to get the 10 miles past York, we have holiday cottages near Whitby and many of our guests comment on how long it took.
