Roll out awning

Hi All,

I was recently driving past a house and there was a caravan in the drive with what looked like a porch awning up, however, it all seemed to be out of a bag attached to the awning rail. When I drove past again later in the day it was gone but the bag on the side of the van had something rolled up into it.

If I had seen someone outside I would have stopped to ask.

I have tried looking on the internet and not had much luck, it wasn't a Fiamma and all the sides looked permanently attached.

What was this awning and does anyone have and recommend one??

Many Thanks

Ian

hi Ian

I think the the awning you saw was a Spacelite porch awning( if you google Spacelite you will get plenty of results), iv just just bought one but iv not had the oppertunity to erect it yet. The quality seems as good if not better than the senic porch iv got. Im looking forward to having what seems to be a big awning that only take a few minutes to put up. I hope this helps.

Hi Ian, could have been a PDQ awning i know they are attached to the rail in a bag. Have seen them up on sites they look good.

I'm sure someone on here will be able to tell you more about them.

Hi both, thanks for the quick replies.

Just typed them both into google and they both look really good. The PDQ is the one I saw on the weekend. I just watched a video by Pyramid products and it showed someone erecting the awning in no time at all, however, it looked quite flexible and we often use our NR coniston on windy weekends so we would need something a bit stronger.

Stean the awning you have looks great and would be grateful if you could update me when you do have a chance to put it up. We have 2 dogs and they will do anything to escape from the awning. On our current awning the mud flaps are on the interior so they tuck underneath the groundsheet and the dogs arent bright enough to lift up the groundsheet to get under the mud flaps. Do the mud flaps on the spacelite fold inwards or is it just outwards like doremas???

Many Thanks

Ian

hi Ian,

I had the awning up at the weekend & all seemed fine, I think with practice it wil get faster. As to your question about the flaps at the bottom being on the inside or outside, well they are on the outside but i was supprised to see that there are lots of eyelets in the flaps to peg them securely down all the the way around the awning.

Not convinced on the longevity of these awnings and we've seen them ripped on windy sites.

Have also seen problems with zips.

Beware how and in what conditions you use them.

We have a Dorema and after 30 months we had to have the zip replaced. My friend had a Bradcot and after 14 months the zip packed up. he has now bought an awninjg with a metal zi[p and we will be doping the same.

Moral is avoid awnings with plastic zips because if you use the awning a lot, the zip will not last!
