Morning all.

I'm looking to call upon your collective knowledge, plus search didn't return anything too recent.

Next Monday were off for our first long tow down to Haven Perrabporth, originating near to Gatwick Airport.

What would you suggest for route? I think M4 > M5 > A30
But my wife would rather go M3 > A303

Also any recommendations on stops for each.

The only other realistic option would be A303/30 then join end of the M5 at Exeter, but it still has long stretches of single carriageway and suitable stopping off points are few and far between, unlike the M4/5 route which is served by regular service areas.

On the M5 southbound from the West Midlands we usually pull in for a comfort break at Taunton Dene services.
There are several services on the A303 and the A30.
Click on the names to check the facilities

....I used to live near Gatwick and travelled both routes hundreds of times as an artic driver.
Basically M23 M25 M3 A303 A30 is the scenic route which will take a bit longer than M23 M25 M4 M5 A30.
Plenty of stopping places on both routes.
Both routes have the potential for heavy traffic and delays.
I'd specifically recommend Gartgate services on an A303 roundabout near Yovil if you go that way. Good for resting..food toilets but no fuel.

Thanks for the advice and links to the services. Pretty sure I've used Gartgate a few years ago.
Good to know both routes are fairly caravan friendly. I think I'll make plans on both and then See how the traffics looking when I get on the M25, planning an early start so might get lucky......

I'll be on the M25 heading for Crawley tomorrow morning .....the roadworks at the A3 junction both ways, are causing slow moving traffic daily at the moment!
Some nightime closures have been happening with reopening at 6am.

Those roadworks are the bane of my life. Do the drive through there once a week at least for work!
Planning to set off between 6 and half past so should miss the closures.

And Today was the day of the big drive.
Set off at 7:30 and got here at 3, with 2 stops..
Decided to play it safe and go M4>M5>A30.

Thanks for the tips, might try the 303 back.... We will see!!
