Off to Bala on saturday for the week and looking at route options,

Google earth, AA and the mitchelin all give different routes. Leaving from Darlington. First choice over A66 then down or through the pain in the bum road works at wtherby (not long till 2012 when finished.

Whats the best way in that area

Charlie,

I live next to Porthmadog, just further on than Bala.

I go north up the M6 from home about 3 times a year and always use the same route both on the outward journey and return journey. I actually go via Bala.

The route from the M6 is as follows.

1. M6 onto M56 signposted North Wales.

2. Onto M53 which runs onto A55 signposted Chester /Wrexham.

3. A55 onto A483 signposted Wrexham. DO NOT MISS THIS TURN.

4. A483 onto A5 to Llangollen--Corwen.

5. A5 onto A494 to Bala.

You are on motorway and then dual carriageway all the way to the A5.The A5 at this time of year is not busy.

If you are going to the C.andC.C. site take your time on the A494 as you will come upon the turning without much notice.

The A5 and the A494 are good roads to tow on, irrespective of the size of your caravan.

Have a good holiday in our neck of the woods.

Charlie,

Forgot to say when we go to the Stockton site to see our friends who are the Wardens there, we always use the same route from the M6.

We go up the M6 to the A59 and accross to the A1M.

This avoids the M62 which i hate, especially at the Manchester end.I find the A59 ok to tow on. On the journey home once i arrive at the M6 i can relax.

Thankyou for your help.

The stockton site is our local favourite. SWMBO insists on watching the auf viedersen pet tees barrrage episodes there. and its only 20 mins from home
