I am complete novice in the caravan world. I have just purchased a Bailey Pageant 2005 5 series. Do I have to have the caravan master switch on when towing to operate the fridge? Is the Flamma heater ok to operate on just electric hook up?

thankyou in anticipation

Nick

Hi Nick2,

We are also fairly new to caravanning, and on our first 'van, but I will try to help you based on our 'van.

No, you don't need any of the caravan electrics on to run the fridge from the car. When the engine's running the leisure battery will charge and the fridge will work (assuming the fridge is switched on).

Secondly, assuming your heater is similar to ours, then it is perfectly ok to use on hook-up. Our heater (can't remember the make off hand) will provide blown air on hook-up or can be used as a gas convector heater with or without a 12 volt fan.

Hope this helps.

Sorry to trouble you again, Nick2, but another post has jogged my memory - our heater is made by Carver so I don't know how it will compare to yours!

Hi Nick2,

You've probably got a Truma S3002 space heater whic may be fitted with a Carver Fanmaster electric heating unit or more likely considering it's age the later Truma Ultraheat and associated Trumavent fan unit.

If you haven't got the handbook for the van, either phone Bailey who should be able to help you or have a shufti at this page on the Truma website http://www.truma.com/_anweisungen/Truma-Katalog/index_gb.html?&language=en_gb&dataLanguage=en_gb. From here you can download the instructions for the heater, the utraheat and the trumavent fan as well as the Truma Uktrastore water heater that you've got fitted

A good point to remember here is ,if you are in the position to do so over night run your fridge up over night from home electric before you set off in the morro and then the tow vehicles electics will keep fridge topped up

Happy Caravanning and welcome to this wonderful world

Just to clarify the last post, the 12v will not lower the temperature of the fridge, it will only maintain it. So if you hook up the electric over night to get the fridge nice and cold when you hitch up to the car this will maintain the temp until you get to your destination (the beer should still be ice cold, happy days).

Cheers

Craig.
