Is this fixable, or cheaper getting a new set? Dull dark line appeared last night.

Yes it's probably fixable but very tricky as a DIY job as you'll need to take out the LCD panel. Been there, tried that and failed at the last minute.

My LG screen started having weird colours on it. Problem was the Led backlights had died in a few places. I managed to get them out and ordered replacements. About £60.

Took the LCD panel off again; replaced the Led backlights and then put the LCD panel back in place. Heard a crack and a split across the panel appeared. Now totally dead.

Got my money back on the Led backlights and bought a new TV.

I think unless you can get a tv engineer to repair it at a reasonable cost, I would buy a new one. One benefit though is that you can follow your advice in a recent thread……..” go out” 😂

Much will depend on its "age".
If that's into years and requiring to fund an engineer, the more so if its also involves a call out, that will quickly "Hoover" up money that IMO would be way better invested in buying a new set.
Economic repair of these things tends to be increasingly limited to the enthusiastic and knowledgeable DIYer, in this field it is not my territory.

Edit: I would have to try a "hard reboot"[leave unplugged overnight], and seeing if as affected with its other inputs, PC, set top box, DVD player etc; then start a market place deal scan for last year's models.
