Very nice site, great for dog walks ,bird watching, fighter plane spotting, walks general and bike rides , the House is nice but we found the general area around a bit dull, we prefer Wroxham for a Norfolk CC site, but as I said the site itself is very nice , clean and friendly and great shower blocks.

We never stopped there, only at the CC site (short walk through the woods) but the C&CC site looked far nicer and more open (less regimented) so much so that we promptly joined `the enemy` (well for 12 months).

Decent shop, lots of walks, including to Sandringham House (lovely gardens but the house was a disappointment, bit of a comparative dump), good beaches within an easy drive, just the toilet block seemed a bit rudimentary in comparison to the CC one.

Hi Lisa

Totally agree with Paul C. - nice typical CC site, but not too much to do in surrounding area. We enjoyed the house as it is still actually used by the Royals at Christmas so you could imagine the scene. We also preferred Broadlands at Wroxham, again a typical CC site although the caravans tend to be in straight lines, but good anyway. Fish and chips in the area are superb!

Hi

Re Sandringham Site: Thanks for the replies. When you say there's not much to do in the surrounding area, could I ask:

How far is the local 'town' with shopping centres?

How far is the local cinema?

How far is a leisure centre?

Beaches?

Anything for 16 year olds within a ten mile radius?

Thanks.

Lisa

Hi Lisa

Keep your dogs 'in sight' as the local youth population caused havoc on both Sandringham sites last year! We were there so can vouch for this. The damage was bad enough for the police to be called to both sites. When pitching make sure you are well away from the perimeter hedge and you should be relatively safe.

Hi Ann

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean they tried to steal dogs? That sounds very scary if that's the case, however Gaylord is very territorial and he wouldn't allow anyone in the awning/caravan without them being invited in.

In answer to your earlier questions, Lisa, the nearest town with all facilities is King's Lynn, which is about 7 miles. Hunstanton is about the same distance in the other direction, with all the tacky seaside entertainments that teenager seem to like! There certainly isn't much on the doorstep that a teenager (or even an adult) could do in an evening without transport, but for days out, there are plenty of options, depending upon the sorts of things your family enjoys!

The dog incidents that Ann mentions sound worrying, but I am fairly sure it must have been just a bad patch. We have been to Sandringham C&CC site many times, with and without a dog, and have always found it a delightful spot, with never a hint of trouble.

Worth downloading Google earth (free) as you can easily spot the sites to the south of Sandringham Palace from the air. The CCC is the larger of the two that are almost adjacent. 500mtr footpath runs between the two, with a privately owned shop in between. The site is roomy and not regimented, many trees about. For things to do we prefer the West Runton site and that part of Norfolk, as you are between the entertainments of Cromer and Sheringham. Good walks from the site, including to the beach at Runton gap in about 30 minutes. Not sure we would recommend either Snettisham or Hunstanton that are the nearest beaches to Sandringham sites. Kings Lynn the nearest town about 7 miles has the renewed shopping centre and the riverside areas.

Cannot say much about the sites as we go further afield as we live in Kings Lynn

However for those wanting to know what to do, a car nearly a neccessity. Ideal cycling country, lots of wooded walks around.

Dersingham bog at Wolferton worth a look. Sandringham Park and visitor center ok. RSPB reserve at Snettisham not far.

Hunstanton Beach and fun fair for youngsters, swimming pool here, Old Hunstanton for others who prefer the quiet pretty end.

Good coastal scenery, walks and cycle rides all round the coast.

Last Sunday Old Hunstanton was bathed in sunshine, with sea birds, waders and good sand to wander on and watch it all on the way to the Acient Mariner Real Ale Bar.

Hi Lisa

We spent half-term there in October. It's a lovely site. Very relaxing. Like others have said, it's not a regimented-in-lines sort of place, which we like.

It's great for nature - bird watching, country walks etc.

There's a little shop on the edge of the site that opens normal hours in peak season - but only for 1 hour in the morning while we were there!

The nearest civilisation - Budgens, takeaways, chippies etc is in Dersingham which is about ten minutes away in the car.

I would recommend the site - and the area. However, there's not a lot to do for 16 year olds. That might be a bit of a downer. If I'd got teenagers, I'd be more tempted to go somewhere like Searles at Hunstanton as you've got the club, the pool, amusements, Tesco over the road and they can walk into Hunstanton in ten minutes.

Hope this helps.

Have been to Sandringham C&CC site twice this year. Very relaxing and as already mentioned is not as regimented as some sites in terms of the pitching of caravan which in itself helps give a relaxed feel.

When the need or urge for big shops arises Kings Lynn is not too far away but we found Hunstanton more than sufficient for our needs.

Meeting the needs of many 16 year olds would probably be difficult without regular use of vehicle.
