Hello Barry,

I use a satellite dish which is clamped onto a tv mast at the front of the van,and is wired into a satelite receiver via an external socket. The dish is a plastic one which is part of the camping kit you can get from Maxview. The receiver is from Maplins. It doesnt cost a deal, and the picture on the telly is perfect no matter where you are. You get hundreds of free channels from the Astra 2 satellite, and can keep the favourites BBC,sky etc.The only slight difficulty is ensuring that the dish is pointing in the right direction and that youve got line of sight to the satellite, but once youve mastered it its a piece of cake really. All the info can be found on the Maxview and Maplins websites.

Cheers Richard

satellite dishes are more common now on sites, saw two on our last outing, both free standing.

The only downsides i see, are

1/ dish has to go to a position it dictates to work.

2/ If ground sited needs to be anchored.

Having said that your status is broad band and should work ok.

But i use a pole mounted 2' high gain broad band, with mast head amp.

I find it convenient in that it secures to the jockey wheel and takes up no ground space.

If i had a choice, i would chose the latest roof mounted status fitted to the new vans.

But as i have said, both systems do the job.

Aerials work very well sometimes but not always ( and practically nowhere on the continent ).

Satellite dishes work perfectly everywhere.

Both can very occasionally influence your choice of pitch if there happens to be something big and lumpy in the way.

Olly.
