I avoided the sat' route and got a good house aerial and signal strength meter from B & Q.
There is also an APP (for Android and Apple) that gives you a map overview of where you are, using GPS signal and gives a line of sight to all available transmitters with their effective "Signal Strength" Green is good, red is maybe.
The APP is free and called UK Aerial Alignment.
I have been using this system for 2 years now and always have a cracking signal, no matter what the terrain.
Even at Stowford, which is hit and miss, we had 98 TV channels and pretty good reception, even recording ok while we were out.
Also we use a cheap Freeview recorder and record a few films, etc, at home then we have entertainment on the bad nights on TV and if nobody is out having a chat.
