I have posted many times on this Forum regarding a Satellite System for Caravans and if you are only looking for something to work in the UK then Maplins is a good place to start.I have used one for some years now and they are very easy to set up but you have to remember line of sight comes in here so you dont need any trees in the way at all..The one they sell in the case you can actually set it up in the case .The only dowside of them is that you will get every region going when you set up eg 4 channel 4s four ITVs etc but still good value for money.I hope this is some help for you .Sir Roger

You would be better to buy a 60cm dish then it will work everywhere in the (present?) UK and quite a way into France. You will also need a satellite finder which cost about a fiver when Lidl or Aldi have them on offer, and a good optical compass the find the direction.

As for a receiver you can buy any form of Freesat box - Humax are the best - or you can get a secondhand Sky box with a Freesat-from-Sky viewing card or an expired subscription card. If you go this latter route the multi-room box is a good option as it is quite small and is HD to boot. Cash Converters or Cash Generators usually have them for about £15 with remote and often with card.

I avoided the sat' route and got a good house aerial and signal strength meter from B & Q.
There is also an APP (for Android and Apple) that gives you a map overview of where you are, using GPS signal and gives a line of sight to all available transmitters with their effective "Signal Strength" Green is good, red is maybe.
The APP is free and called UK Aerial Alignment.

I have been using this system for 2 years now and always have a cracking signal, no matter what the terrain.

Even at Stowford, which is hit and miss, we had 98 TV channels and pretty good reception, even recording ok while we were out.

Also we use a cheap Freeview recorder and record a few films, etc, at home then we have entertainment on the bad nights on TV and if nobody is out having a chat.

If you want any more advise, reply to this and I will do what I can.

Update - I've got into the apps on my phone, but I can't find a search facility. Is there one?

On your phone you will have this image
google_play_store.png
click on it and in the top right hand corner is the search icon tap it & then type in UK Aerial Alignment and the choice of apps will show on the screen. if your phone is synced to your pc you can look at the apps online and the choose to download them directly to your phone.
