Hi

of course it's a good idea! I reckon you should be ok May/early June, it tends to be worse late July/August and apparently it will be worse this year due to a mild winter.

Try to avoid the West and places near water/forests. Also, if you do a search for Midges there is lots of advice on the forum of how to protect yourself - I used to do volunteer work for the NT and was told to apply Avon Skin So Soft, apparently the Army use it...!

Make sure you don't miss out on the East of Scotland either, perhaps do that on your way back?

kind regards

The infamous scottish midge can start from mid-May but if you let these wee fellas rule your holiday plans you'll never see the best part of the UK!

It used to be said that there was no defence against these midges but Avon Skin So Soft seems to be establishing an all-conquering reputation.

If you really can't cope with the midges, try Buchan, Moray Firth and the Grampians - superb scenery with a reduced, but not eliminated, risk of midges.
