We have removed the screw cover tape from the awning rail after some bodywork repairs, I've bought enough cover tape to replace the UV degraded original but how do you refit it??, I believe a special tool is used, is it east to make one? Where could I buy one?. Grateful for any advice.

Gary, if you are very patient you can use a small flat bladed scrediver, VERY CAREFULLY, to ease the seal into the rail.

A tool is available from Seals Direct which woul dmake the job much much quicker

In business we've used the same sort or sealing strip for another application into an alluminium extrusion.

We've never bothered with a fitting tool and just found heating the strip in hot water and pinching it is the easiest way to fit the strip, a smooth ronded and blunt tool may help.

Un-coil the strip the day before you fit it to allow it to shrink when in an un-coiled state, as you fit it push it back towards where you started especialy on corners as I've never known it not shrink (sorry about anything a manufacturer may claim) and leave as much as possible under the end caps to allow for any further shrinkage.

If you keep pushing it towards the direcion you started from you should overcome streching from warming the strip.

I found half a plastic cloths peg was useful, the tip seemed to have about the right shape to it. I would not recommend anything made of metal as you will find the slightest slip equals a foot long scratch!!
