Hi Folks

Wife, Myself and Max the collie are looking for a peaceful site in NE for a few days break at the end of May/beginning of June, after the Bank Holiday.

We like peaceful sites preferably with sea or river views. We don't need clubhouse, bar or such facilities but would like an EHU. We are happy to stay on basic CL type sites although we would prefer an electric hookup. Our van is a twin-ax 7.36 metres long but our 4x4 can cope with most types of site terrain.

I have spent a lot of time reading the reviews but would appreciate further comments

Thanks in anticipation

Tim

Hi Tim, I live about 15 to 20 miles outside of Northumberland. I can recommend 2 good sites for you. The first is a site called Proctor Steads. This site is about 1/2 mile outside of the small fishing village of Craster. (Famous for its smoked kippers). This site has veiws inland is level and has nice clean tiolets and showers. (It is a bit akward to get to but it is well worth it.)The second site is inland towards Keilder water its called Brownrigg Camping and Caravan Site this is one of the nicest and cleanest site I have ever been on. It is just outside the village of Bellingham and is within easy reach of Hexham and Newcastle. This site is run to the highest of standards and is kept very clean around the site. There is a small shop on site selling the basics. Both these sites can be found on the internet.

Hope I have been of help to you and I hope you enjoy your short break.

Thanks for all that folks I've checked out Proctors Steads and West Kyloe as they looked the sort of places we like. I'll be on to them first thing tomorrow, a bit late tonight.

Any further comments on either site would be appreciated.

Thanks again for all your help. Our 18 yr old son unfortunately suffers from a recurring illness which means that advanced booking is a no,no for us as we have to see if he is well enough to be left by himself at home. Too old to come with us now of course!!!

Thanks again

Tim

Thanks everyone and especially Dot for all your help.

Thanks to everyone who posted.

We have got a pitch at Proctors Steads, Caister for 7 nights. No sea views but only a short walk away.

A few other sites we came across which sounded like us seaview lovers' types of sites were:

West Kyloe, Belford, full up (BSB)

North Farm, Embleton Sea view but unsure if the do EHUs (BSB)

Bluebell Farm, Belord again unclear about EHUs (BSB)

Brock Mill Farm, unfortunately full up (CC)

Beachcomber House, Goswick - full up. Man said mainly a tent site (BSB)

(BSB = Camping & Caravan Big Sites Book) (CC = Caravan Club handbook)

Beadnell Links and Marshall Meadows Berwick both no longer take tourers

Hope these may be of use to some others looking for sites in this area in the future.

Thanks again for the help everyone who posted.

Happy 'vanning to you all

Best wishes

Tim

Try Kielder Water. It is a beautiful clean CC site with fantastic walks in the forest and around the biggest man made resevoir in Europe. You are situated high up and, if lucky, can get a pitch which looks down onto the lake. A short walk down brings you to a restaurant/bar but it is not on top of you.

Why Dot Cant see a recommendation from her. I think you will enjoy yourself at Proctor Steads. Try a trip up the coast to Seahouse,s Nice small fishing Village plenty of pubs that serve bar meals. Go inland to Alnwick typical Northumberland Village.

You could even try a trip across to Holy Island but please check the tides over the cause way. Enjoy your short break mate.

Hi Stan

Thanks for your recommendation as it was indeed you who suggested Proctor Steads to me orginally. Sorry I did not give you mention previously. The reference to Dot was left in in error. I posted with similar posts on some other caravanning websites and she contributed several useful posts on one of those.

Thanks again and for the further suggestions. We're both looking forward to our break a LOT and hoping that you can arrange some good weather!!?? We had a b&b weekend in Alnmouth as a wedding anniversary celebration a few years back and we are looking to rekindle happy memories of that beautiful area.

Thanks again

Tim

Do not forget to tell me and other members what you think of the site and the surrounding area. P.S. Keep the noise down this time your only in a caravan.

Enjoy yourself.
