Yes that is a Austin A40. I dont know which though as these used to be named after counties. EG A40 Hereford etc.

There was also the A55 Cambridge. This had a smaller 1500cc engine compared to the A60s 1622cc engine.
Chris is right, the older A40s were named after counties and I believe the Somerset was the most popular.
In later years they brought out the A40 Farina which from memory had a 1098cc engine.

This brings back happy memories of my first good car, a 2 year old A60 Austin Cambridge, bought for
don't they still make them in india? i'm sure they're called the the hindustan ambassador, and they're fitted with an 1800 diesel.
The A40 of that vintage was called a Devon - a bit feeble for a tow car i would have thought. They also made a similar looking but larger car the A90 Atlantic. I suspect the numbers may have referred to horsepower (bhp)
Elsewhere in the issue the @Spitfire' pictured on the runway is actually a Hurricane.

My first car was a 1962 (i think) austin A4o country man, my only car in black, it came with if again i recall correctly a 1000cc engine.
Further to mistaken identities, on page 21 of the same issue, our beloved Doug King has wrongly identified a Hawker Hurricane as a Supermarinme Spitfire.
In the sixties we used to use the Austin Westminster as police patrol cars and they were builyt like tanks. With the supercharger these cars could quite easily do well over 120mph and stay glued to the road. Don't think they had turbo chargers in those days.

Sorry obviously my mistake the only A40 I remember from my childhood was the A40 Farina at least it shows that we read the magazine and take an interest.
