Tracy,

We visited this site in late June /early July 2004. We found it clean (mostly) and tidy, restaurant and bar good with some entertainment provided in evenings. My grandson, 10 at the time really enjoyed the kids club. Pool looked great but despite air temp of 35C everybody complained that the water was freezing, apart from the shallow kids pool it was empty for the time we were there. The reason for the "mostly" after describing the site clean? The toilets blocks were, as often found abroad, only partly roofed. At the time we were there the swallows were still nesting with their chicks still in the nest. These nests were inside roof of the toilet and shower blocks and despite regular cleaning bird droppings were everywhere. When you came out of the shower you had to check your towel was still clean.

No bother with the mozzies that others mentioned but there were plenty of ants about. We had been forewarned about this from others on this forum and took ant powder with us. I sprinkled this down before laying out the ground sheet, and gave the ground under the van a good sprinkling as well and we never had any problem the time we were there.

Water and waste points were very scarce. The main reason that would make me think twice before going there again was that we went in what was early to mid season. A lot of pitches were empty , more than half the static vans and chalets seemed unoccupied but the bar and restaurant were very busy and struggling to cope. I would definitely not go in high season.

Could I recommend another Castels site to you. Not just as far south but still within easy driving distance of LA Rochelle for a day out is La Garangoire. We have been there twice, very clean, huge pitches, about 20 minutes drive from the coast,a really good site which has received favourable reports from other people on this forum.

We stayed at Sequoia beginning of August for 2 weeks and absolutely loved it. True, we had to walk further than usual for the water, but that was our only gripe. The site was spotless, pitches were huge and the fellow campers were very friendly (mixture of mainly British & Dutch). We enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant and enjoyed a take-away on a couple of occasions. We will be booking up again for next summer without a doubt, as will our friends. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
