Well all, back for some more info, can anyone suggest something

i can apply to the rubber seal on the main entrance door on my series 6, Bertagne. If it is left for any lenth of time unopened

the door seems to stick to the frame and needs prising away when you want to open it.

Have heard mentioned talc powder or french chalk the type you find in bicycle repair kit, have anybody else encountered this problem and how did you resolve it. thanks again

Hi Sean,

I'm guessing that someone has "lubricated" the rubber seal with Vaseline or WD40 or similar petroleum based lube to either freshen up the rubber, or clean it, or maybe try to improve its water-proof nature.

Unfortunately, these materials cause rubber to swell but more importantly for you, the surface becomes very sticky.

You can try two different processes:

1. As you say, just use talcum powder - this will mop up the stickiness and help no end - but you'll need to reapply on a regualr basis.

2. Use the correct lubricant to refresh the door rubber - and that's a Silicone oil (or spray) - an application of Silicone spray and a rub with a cloth should remove the stickiness - but you'll need to repeat on a yearly basis (if not more often)

Silicone oil (or spray) is a useful lubricant for caravans - it's the correct product for window rubbers and other rubber seals like those used in the toilet.

Hi Sean,

I'd give the rubber seal a light spray, then wipe off with a clean cotton rag - and look at the surface of the rag afterwards - if you can see black sticky bits on it, repeat the process.

Normally you'd just spray and lightly wipe - more to spread the oil across the rubber rather than wipe it away.
