You often, I cannot say for all vans, get a Warranty Card with a new van like those for cars. This is stamped every year by the servicing dealer and shows what has been checked.

If not, then the dealer, especially a reputable one will have a check sheet showing everything that has been checked, which you can use as back up to the receipt.

If neither is available, then you may wish to ask, or use another dealership.

Hello Duggie,

You will only get these certificates if you ask them to provide them. There is no requirement for them to be produced as a matter of course.

These tests will probably charged in addition to your service charge.

I am in the Capital on the posh South side, or at least the neighbours thought so until I moved in.

I moved out of Aberdeen 16 years ago with no regrets.

if the workshop is part of the Approved Caravan Workshop Scheme they must provide a fully itemised invoice, a copy of the service check list/schedule and a copy of the damp report.

a stamped handbook is no longer a recognised proof of servicing, only a mere quick indication. whenever you may want warranty work completing, the warranty company whether it be a manufacturer or third party (insurance backed warranty) they will want these proofs of servicing.

Hi Duggie and caravan oracle,

There are important differences between reports and certificates.

A report can be made by anybody, and it does not have to conform to any specific criteria. Thus a service centre can report on the condition of gas and electrical systems, but the findings have little authority.

A certificate is a little more involved, It requires that certain tests are carried out against an agreed schedule, and the results compared to specific criteria. These can only be issued by persons acting on behalf of and with the authority of the certifying body. There are usually fees to be paid for such a service.

That is why certification of a system will be more expensive than an technicians report.
