Afternoon

Just got home from our shakedown weekend.
New Swift van and new BMW 530 so quite a lot to try out.
I’ve done a lot of touring but never with a new car and caravan in the same weekend.
Worth noting that even though I set the tyre pressures very carefully, I stopped after a good few miles to adjust both the van and car tyres as the whole outfit felt harsh.
With the slightly softer tyres the outfit towed like a dream.
The 3.0 diesel in the BMW and the car itself is a superb tug, mpg was hardly reduced and even at legal speeds, the motor is very relaxed, autobox makes it all an effortless task.
We found a couple of minor issues with the van, easily sorted now we are home but they do show a lack of attention to detail by the dealer during the pdi, most annoying issue was the lack of handle for the grill pan, I phoned the service manager yesterday to advise them of the issue and I will collect the handle this coming week.
So, all in all a great early weekend on a virtually deserted site in Shrewsbury.
Does anyone else find their outfit feels harsh when tyres are at the recommended settings? Perhaps we travel lightly so don’t need everything set for full loading?
I need to look at swapping the wheel on the jockey as the 200mm hard wheel is very effective as a plough on my gravel drive when used with the motormover, I’m sure a phuematic wheel will be more effective and I have used them on previous vans so know the issues with the tyres degrading etc.

Hi Kevin, a lot of your posting is true, I find our Coachman even when fully loaded tows better at 60 psi in the tyres than the 65 specified. I don't think certain dealers do proper pdi checks and just throw out the caravans, and wait for the owners to complain. But that's my opinion. Enjoy your outfit sounds a nice unit.
