Going to Brighton at the weekend (only 3 more sleeps!). Any advice regarding access, things to do in the area etc please.

Family of 2 adults, 12 year old twin boys and a nearly 5 year old boy.

Think we're going to go to Chessington World of Adventures (got some 2-4-1 vouchers thank goodness) and possibly Warwick Castle. Any comments please?

Hi

Sheepcote valley is a lovely site, just above the marina in brighton, you can walk into brighton itself which will take about half an hour.

There is an Asda and some other shops down by the marina. Plenty of space just outside the site for the children to play football.

Chessington is great too.

Typical CC site, clean and well run. We were there in the Spring of 2007, disappointed that most of the TV sockets on the EHU bollards were broken. I spoke to the warden re this and sent an e-mail to head office who promised to sort this out. If you are into TV on site please check that the provided sockets are working on your pitch. Serviced pitches are at furthest point from entrance. A tip....take your car down to the Marina and park in the free car park and catch a bus into the city centre, car parking in Brighton is horrendous and the traffic taliban are every where and very liberal with their penalty notices. That said Brighton is a lively town (city?) with plenty to do for all.

Just returned from Sheepcote Valley and had a lovely time. It was over 30 degrees for the first few days then cooled down to around 25! At 15 nights away, this was our longest trip out so far since acquiring our van last October and we still love it!

Really nice site, mainly level with usual CC standard of facilities. TV reception was rubbish so take a booster box. The hardstandings were VERY hard and we struggled to hammer in our rock pegs so a proper hammer is on our shopping list (kind neighbour lent us one this time). The kids enjoyed the play area which was just to the back of our pitch - we didn't appreciate parents letting their kids play there very noisily from 7.30am every morning but suppose that's what you get for choosing to be near the play area! Didn't have much to do with the wardens but they didn't seem very knowledgeable about the area - one chap wanted to buy a 12v coolbox so needed to know where to find a local caravan accessory shop and they couldn't tell him!

Our only disappointment was that it was Gay Pride weekend in the middle of our stay and this made the site and the whole area very busy. No problem with the people, lifestyles etc, just made getting around rather difficult. For those of you that know the Sheepcote Valley site, the park field next door was turned into a temporary campsite for the Pride attendees and there were approx 400-500 tents there with just portaloos for facilities. Because of this, from about Thursday onwards, campers sneaked into Sheepcote Valley to use their facilities. I caught several campers (in both meanings of the word!) washing, changing and charging their mobiles in the launderette as they couldn't get into the toilets etc due to the security code entry. By late Friday, the CC wardens had got wind of this and started to patrol the gates. It all started to calm down by Monday afternoon and travelling around was easier. Shame though as we ended up spending most of that middle weekend of our holiday around the site as it just wasn't worth getting stuck in traffic.

Really liked the Sussex area and sure we'll return sometime. Chessington was a bit of a disappointment as it was extremely busy and the queues for rides were very long. It was expensive too, at over

It looks as though the Travellers Site is going ahead at Sheepcote Valley. As I live on the other side of the City I do not know the precise proximity of the proposed Travellers site to the CC site but I believe it is further up the hill from the CC site with open land separating them.

"Outcome of Cabinet meeting Thursday 31 July...

The Cabinet has approved a preferred site for the provision of a permanent Gypsy and Travellers site with up to 14 pitches. The site is within the former BMX site off Wilson Avenue, East Brighton"

Sheepcote valley is a little too close to a known bad estate for my liking - but as its not far from me I might take a trundle to have a look at the facilities before ruling it out completely
