Hiya

We're off in our Van again in 2 weeks time, returning first week of December - we won't then be using the van for around 8 weeks - what lengths do we need to go to for storing the van (it lives at at secure storage site); I've read about moth balls; taking cushions out, emptying all cupboards etc.

We're newbies so don't know what is best practise.

Thanks in advance

Hiya,

We are new to the scene and this is a good question. Our storage is under cover and wonder if we still need to do the emptying bit too. We do plan to continue to use the van as often and weather permits.

From what I have gleened:-

Stand all cushion in the center of your van

Leave all taps on

All water cleared as much as possible

Vent covers on Fridge Vents (this is a question I have above)

Gas off

Check van on a regular basis

Just some things I have picked up.

If you have more, I'll be eagerly watching this section.

Have a good break,

For 8 weeks you do not need to go into overdrive. The main issue will be if there is a lot of frost so water draining is important. If practical it can a good idea to move cushions to your home. They will be warmer when you put them back, and it reduces the chance of the van being targeted for theft. Try to rotate the wheels once a month to stop 'flats' forming and leave the handbrake off. You may need to chock the wheels to keep the van safe.

Of course remove all food that may deteriorate andleave the fridge door open.
