Should I say something?

There is a caravan parked on a drive just round the corner from us opposite a school, lots of people drive and walk past and it's plain for everyone to see, it's parked with the hitch facing the road and it's a twin axle.

Now we all know when you buy a van with an alko hitch you get the lock and the red ball you put in place when not using it.

This van is parked up with no wheel lock, no hitch lock, no ball, and no bollard, absolutely no deterrant at all.

Every time I walk past it I feel I should say something, or maybe they should learn the hard way.

Even when i'm on a site all locks are in place.

Best to try and get into casual conversation and just drop in your thoughts that you are surprised it has no physical security measures. It may have an alarm which if the owners are new to caravanning might think is enough, a bit like a car. Otherwise, whilst its good to show concern, I am not sure what else you can do. If you make a more direct approach you might get a flea in the ear, some people are difficult to predict. If that happens you will then be hoping someone pinches it!

ditto above.

But, how long has it been there?

Have other vans been parked on the drive before this one ?

Wait till they are out gardening then pop along and strike up a conversation. Do not go knocking on the door as you do not know the circumstances and you may come over as the "local know it all ,curtain twitching busy body" which may infuriate them.

Having said that if they choose not to secure it....thats entirely up to them... daft but then some folks are.

you could pop a card through their door, just put a message on it saying it doesnt look secure.. no harm in it. I accidently left my caravan keys hanging out the caravan door sitting in the drive way, and one of my neighbours very kindly chapped the door and told me... I was so releived and I would imagine they would be too.

Oops, I misunderstood the post not realising you meant a house drive. Forget what I said about the police and I wouldn't do anything. If they are so stupid they deserve to have it nicked.

You might be told to mind your own business anyway :O(

Hi,

Having had someone attempt to nick my caravan recently, I would be tempted to put a note through the letterbox. They may be totally unaware how many vans get nicked each week. At least you would have warned them as a fellow caravanner.

I understand L.B's point but................

Paradoxically, maybe they want it nicked to claim some insurance money???

Times are hard.

I'd stay out of it.

Cheers
