Hi - hope somebody can help.
We have a Burstner with three amber side marker lights on each side of the van in addition to the small red/white lights mounted high up at the rear.
We have recently changed our towcar and have noticed that these side lights appear to be earthed through the breakaway cable - is this normal?
Our car has been fitted with a removable bar which does have a bracket welded to it to enable the breakaway cable to be attached but as the eye on the cable moves around on this bracket the side lights flicker on and off, as soon as I disconnect the breakaway cable the side lights do not work at all - the dash lights on the car also seem to flicker slightly too. I have had the socket on the car tested (I only had a single socket fitted as we do not need to run the fridge while travelling)and it appears to work as it should.
The other caravan lights work perfectly and the car is a 2007 Vauxhall Signum which I was told by the towbar fitter was fitted with a vauxhall wiring loom as it has bulb failure monitoring.
The van is due a service soon anyway but I would really like to solve this annoying problem earlier if possible.
Many Thanks in anticipation of somebody being able to throw a 'light' on this probem.
