Probably explains the lack of occupancy
Mel
Possibly, but if it reflects the number of punters on other sites at this time of year they need to have a re-think! I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a club site this quiet in August.

Much as I love my caravan breaks I hope never to pay that sort of ££ for a club site night!
But three weeks back we were at Pentewan in Cornwall which was full at over £70 a night! It just seems like beach/coastal sites are still doing well but club sites elsewhere aren’t? Obviously this is just based on what us and my parents have seen but I suspect escalating costs for life in general is forcing folks to think a bit more about where they stay.

From Friday we'll be staying on a C&CC certified site, hardstanding ehu with a tap and drain on each pitch, but campers need their own washing and toilet facilities, with a CDP and cassette cleaning area.
The owner, Mrs Brown, apologised because due to rising costs she has had to increase the pitch fee........
To £18 per night!

Excellent value! We’re sitting in the awning now browsing CL sites for next year, I dread to think what the club sites will be charging then.

We prefer FSP so accept that we will be paying a premum, but now we find that commercial sites are often less expensive than CMC sites, may be people are shopping around for sites in the area they want to stay, and choosing the most economic option.

We have booked a site in Weston in Sept with a FSP and cost per night is £26. CAMC at Hurn down the road is almost double.

I do think the club have overdone the price rises this ear as the sites we have been on have all been less full than you would expect. I did mention this to one of the wardens and got a knowing look, but no answer.

We've stopped using Club sites due to their ridiculous prices.
Just looked at Alderstead Heath for next week, £33.90 a night for an ECONOMY PITCH!
NOT my idea of economic!

Anyone know if the C&CC prices are similar to the CMHC prices this year? We haven’t used any of their sites this year so not sure on comparison.

Probably similar except over 60's get a discount, but you are probably far too young to get that discount.

Gary,

We're staying at Bowness on Windermere C&CC site this September and it's £32.50 per night (Hardstanding , Hookup & awning - with Age Concession Rate) and the nearest equivalent(ish) CMHC site is at Coniston at £34.50 pn.

On the way up to the Lakes we're stopping-off at Bridge House Marina just outside Garstang at £31 pn but with metered electric extra. That's for a serviced pitch whereas a 'standard' harstanding pitch is £27 pn (+elec).

For us a season varies widely in respect of cost per night as we rally with a small ACCEO affiliated club and CMHC Centres or C&CC District Associations (DAs) and use C&CC Temporary Holiday Sites (THS) plus CLs and CSs. For instance we've recently paid rally fees of £9pn at a rally we ran at Bibury AFC, £13pn on a site at Ratley nr Banbury and £11pn at Stow RUFC - Stow on the Wold.

As an aside/'nother way of looking - our best caravanning friends live in Leicestershire (as I think you do) so, have a look at next year's rally programme for Leicestershire Centre of CMHC. We looked at it with them whilst we were recently away together and the holiday rallies (and others) looked good to us!

Happy 'vanning
Mick

£50.00 non FSP is a bit steep in my book. Our current CL at Yarpole is £22.00 per night FSP and open views. But let’s not forget not all Cls allow kids.

Caravan and Motothomr Club. Certified Location a five van site for club members only Club Site is a main site operated by the Club. Have a look at the two clubs websites. Camping and Caravan Club is the other. They have five unit sites too.

Probably, I spoke to someone a couple of weeks ago in North Devon.
They had been staying on a CAMH site in South Devon the week before (near the coast) The warden had told him that it was running at 66% capacity, Usually in what is peak holiday season they would be running at over 80%.
Maybe their pricing (we can't afford to stay on club sites) or the general cost of living problems families are struggling with or the terrible weather or the post covid caravan boom is over, or a mixture of all of them.

Speaking to our nearest neighbour this morning (four pitches away!) he told me that next year he would be CL’s only, he’s retired but has seen the disposable income from his pension diminish over the last 18 months to the point where he just cannot afford to use club sites anymore. As the CMHC seemed to rely heavily on young families and retired couples to fill pitches it looks like they’re losing out at both ends of the age groups.

We haven't used main CC club sites since 2003, with one exception in 2009, although we carried on using their non-facility sites when they were cheap, originally £6/night - we now just use a mixture of CLs and commercial sites based on their location - typically around £22/night but ranging from £10-28.

None of the CLs we've used this year have been full - so I think the squeeze on incomes is affecting all sites.

I thought that as well but CL is CERTIFICATED Location (or Site if you are in the C&CC!)
