John,

Just you and your partner, or as a whole family? City centred, beach or childrens theme parks, or a mix?

Holland is a great country to visit, loads to see and do.

For the first trip, try Delftsehout camping on the outskirt of Delft (it's about 5 km from my office in North Rotterdam).

Delft is a great city, compact and historical. Just don't try parking in the centre (expensive) - but Deltsehout is an easy 10 minute walk into the centre or 15 minutes to the train station - and then you have cheap, easy, fast access to the whole of the "Randstat" - the ring of cities from Rotterdam in the South to Amsterdam in the North, including Leiden, Den Haag, Utrecht, etc.

In fact, parking in all the Randstat cities is expensive or difficult - it's better to use any Park and Ride schemes, or the train.

This is a piece I wrote for Touring and Tenting:

I know some of you are planning a trip to Holland this Summer, so I thought a list of "what to see and do" would help:

AMSTERDAM

Museums

To see the best golden age masterpieces visit the Rijksmuseum (www.rijksmuseum.nl) and the Rembranthuis (www.rembranthuis.nl).

The van Gogh museum (www.vangoghmuseum.nl) houses an impressive collection and the Amsterdam Historic museum (ww.ahm.nl) gives a glimpse of the city's heyday.

Breakfast / coffee

Kick off the day with a croissant and coffee at the huge canal-side terrace of Caf

Me again.

I forgot to add that 25% of Dutch families own a caravan.

So there is a real abundance of sites to choose from, and in the Summer most Dutch families head south to Spain - but more commonly now to Croatia - so availability is usually OK - but you should book once you have decided

Camp site standards are generally high, but there is some variation - so look up sites on the ACSI guides site:

This will be our third year in Holland. Roads are excellant. We went on a small site (SVR campings web site) which was like our CL sites. Harwich to Hook crossing 7hrs but you do get two meals included. A lot of people speak English. Make sure you have a polarity checking plug. Food is good but there are a few things which we will be taking with us. If you like English sliced bread take stay fresh. Their sliced bread ia awful. Margarine isn't very nice unless you like it pale. And if you like biscuits take your own. Crisps come in family size bags. Take your own carrier bags to supermarkets because they don't have them. If you travel on a Saturday take food for Sunday as shops are closed on Sundays.
