Sites north of Aberdeen

Having been to Admir Point and then across the Highlands to Inverness and back down the east side to Edinburgh, we are now looking at going up the east coast and ultimately to John O Groats.

Can anyone recomend a few sites north of Aberdeen that have good disabled facilities as our in-laws are both disabled. We don't need bells and whistles entertainment but a reasonable quality site would be nice.

We used Linwater at Edinburgh last time as our final site before heading back to Herefordshire and it was truly excellent. Jean the owner was most helpful and her park was very well maintained and we'd give it 5 stars any day.

the CC site at Dunnett Bay is meant to be very good and is fairly near John O Groats. We will be staying there for 4 nights in April, so will let you know more then.

If your going up the East coast, there is a cracking site by the sea in Rosemarkie, but i'm not sure if it has the facilities you require. It's not far off the A9.

Grannie's Heilan Hame in Dornoch is supposed to be good if you have kids. I think it's a 'Parks Resorts' site though, although i haven't heard anything bad about it.

Huntly about 25 miles North of Aberdeen is a nice site, CC affilated.

As Frank has said you could try Huntly Castle caravan site which is only 5 minutes from town centre and is an excellent site.

Depending on which way you wish to travel North there is a site at Peterhead which sits next to the sea shore. Again it is only a short walk into the town.

Can't think why anyone would want to visit Peterhead! It's known locally as the Blue Toon - it sits so far to the east and catches all the easterlies. Always a cold place!

Dunnet Bay CC site is perfect but is often busy during the summer

I dont know if you plan to go across from John o Groats down the west coast but it has a lot of single track after Durness. Its not a problem to tow a van across as we did this a few years ago. The site at Ullapool is absolutely beautiful if you plan to go that way.

Steve we use cc at Dalchem. Brora it has very good disabled facilities. If you phone Dalchem and book tell them you will get a pitch near facilities William

The sun does occasionally shine but it is generally accompanied by a biting wind! Mind you, that's better than rain!
