After my experience with camping cheques last year we decided not to use them again. We bought 7 cheques with the ferry deal but the two times we used them we had to endure a long moan about the poor service (and cash) that the site got from camping cheques. Still have 5 of the cheques left; mainly used ACSI instead.

We only used Camping Cheques once 11 years ago but had some left over and threw them away in the end. We have used ACSI from the year it began 13 years ago and never had a bad site.

We done the same ended up with three cheques left as we couldn,t find a suitable site at the right time and area. Use ACSI sites or municiple site.

Never used them after listening to other's peoples moans, we have used ACSI for the past 13/14 years and are very pleased, however we have experienced some complaints from ACSI sites re the money they are losing, we know the answer to that !!

We have used camping cheques for the past 10yrs and only had a few sites that we would not return to. We have been going to mainly France but also used them in Spain and Italy,perhaps because its usually May & June and usually can choose the pitch that you want.Last year 2015 we were on the French West coast and most of the sites were 5* which would normally cost in the region of 25-45 Euros a night we were paying £15 and all the amenity were open.Its great having swimming pools and water parks to yourselves.

Didn't have a prob with the sites. The prob was with the site owners who constantly moan about Camping Cheques. They weren't simply about the cost but also about the leangth of time it took them to get the money. We prefer ACSI sites because they tend to be quieter and smaller ( you can see how large/No of pitched etc in the book) whereas Camping cheques sites tend to be rather more commercialised large sites. We have been to ACSI sites where we looked and said no thanks and left as they were not up to the standard we expect. Have left f/b on ACSI for both good and bad experiences. Last season we tried ACSI sites in the UK. One of them def looked down their nose at us and one (near lands end) really got offended when we looked and declined - it was really grotty tho.

Having spoken to a site owner in Europe last year, with ACSI they have to pay in advance about 1,200 euro's, but offsetting that they get paid immediately, by their visitors, when they leave. They said that they only needed to get at least 100 additional visitors to cover the cost, after that they are in profit. Another owner told me a few years back that with camping Cheques they only get £8-00 from a £14-00 cheque, and this is not paid until about October, so they have to wait, which must affect their cash flow.

I personally only use the ACSI book with their list of sites when planning our two annual 6 week trips to Europe. ACSI inspect all the sites at least once on an annual basis, and I have to say that having visited a lot of sites throughout Europe that there have been very few that have disappointed me.
