Having watched very many England / Scotland rugby games it is the one thing that makes me think that it would be better for Scotland to go its own way going by some of the signs of hatred shown by both Scottish players and fans at many times. Having had the misfortune of being in London at the same time as Scottish fans a couple of times I would rather chance a football crowd as well!

I'm not that bothered who wins providing it's a good game, but I would put my money on the usual bad tempered Scottish tantrums if it does not go their way.

For what is one island the rivalry is somewhat an unpleasant sight to see far to often !

Thats funny, i stayed in Edinburgh for a few years and used to frequent a pub in the West End which would be packed full of both Scottish fans and fans of whoever they were playing. (including England) I never once saw any trouble or any of the 'hatred' you have seen. In fact the very opposite.

Maybe you were in a dodgy part of London,

Gavin.

Thats funny because i stayed in Edinburgh for a few years and used to frequent a pub in the West End not too far from Murrayfield which was used by both Scotland fans and fans from whoever they were playing,(including England), and i never saw any trouble or any of the 'hatred' you describe.

As for the 'Scottish tantrums', most of us are used to being on the losing side, which makes the occasional win so much sweeter.

I remember back in the 70s when Scotland played at Wembley. The fans invaded the pitch and broke the goal posts and also ripped up the turf. They then ran riot on the Underground and along the tunnels forcing the authorities to turn off the power bringing the whole Underground to a halt.

Fast forward 20 years and England beat Scotland in the last seconds at Murrayfield, some might recall it, the debate was whether the English player had his hand on the ball, it was the most intensely scrutinied part of a game that I've ever seen.

The following day my colleague Smudge and myself had to travel to Edinburgh to transfer a patient to the Coronary Care Unit at Hereford so he could be nearer home. On the way up to Edinburgh I kept warning Smudge not to mention rugby or Murrayfield. Every half hour I warned him, "whatever you do don't mention rugby or Murrayfield". On the outskirts of Edinburgh we came to a large roundabout but didn't know which exit to take to find the Royal. Smudge then noticed some Police parked up so we pulled in to ask directions. The one copper enquired if we had taken the wrong turning and got lost and when we informed him we hadn't he asked us why we were so far from home in an ambulance. Without stopping for a breath I said we had come up to collect a load of Murrayfield turf, my mate glared at me and then burst out laughing.

It was payback, revenge was sweet ;O) hehheh!

Twickenham, eh. You Scots better bring plenty of crowbars. You'll need them to get the ball off the English, then for opening your wallets in the pub, after.

Tissues too, bring plenty of tissues........

Or is that racist?

One of the best 'rugby' weekends i had was while i was on a course in Brecon. Me and a pal who was on the course with me spent every weekend in the pubs in Brecon, because it was too far to travel home.(as good an excuse as any)

We got to know a few of the locals in one of the pubs, so they took us to the Rugby Club bar as guests. Don't have a clue who won that day, but it was one heck of a sesh. Now we've got the caravan, Brecon is down as a 'must' to visit in October or Easter next year,

Gavin.

Ask an Englishman who he thinks will win the Six Nations and he will probably reply that he doesn't care as long as it's not the Frogs. Ask the same question to a Jock and the reply would be they don't care as long as it's not the Sassenachs. ;O) hehheh!

Please dont confuse rugby fans with football fans. While rugby may be a hard game, the behaviour of both players and fans of any nation is exemplary compared to those involved with 'the beautiful game'???? I think the behaviour of rugby fans, especially at internationals, with both sets of fans usually in the same pubs, is a great advert for the game. As for football fans......as soon as the colours appear, they start knocking seven bells out of each other.

gavin, when you visit Brecon, try Bishop's Meadow caravan site. About a mile out of town on the old Hereford road. Google Bishop's Meadow. It's lovely.

And for lunch, have a look at the Cathedral cafe - as reviewed by the Times restaurant critic a couple of years back (favourably)

Well what can i say?. The best team lost (ha ha).

It didn't look too bad for a while in the first half.

Got to give J.W the credit he deserves, even though that was NEVER a try, the damage was done by then anyway.

Am i bitter, course i bl@@#y am. Never mind, a few beers tonight and a dram or 2 and the world will be a better place again.

Well done , not bad for a bunch of Sassenachs,

Gavin

P.S, thanks for the tips for Brecon Emmerson and Old Fogey.
