I am sure I will not be the only one who finds these comments offensive and inappropriate for this Forum!! Likely they will be deleted anyway.

If this is meant to be an attempt at humour it has failed.

SPG it was not I am sure meant to be a joke as I have also just heard it on the news I think he was a 'bouncer'who asked someone to put out a cigarette and rather than do that they shot him.

Hi Plotter - also heard the news. I was referring to the posting and in particular the title not the incident itself.

As the incident is true, then in my opinion the posting shows extremely poor taste and judgement. I have not heard an update on the incident but personally do not find mindless violance and the potential death/serious injury of someone funny.

Reading between the lines I am making the assumption that the poster is a smoker and trying to stir up a reaction.

Here's hoping the thread gets deleted.

Ok SPG whatever however I didn't take it ro be offensive or even intended to be humorous merely a statement of fact. The title is also fine in my opinion others will perhaps read it another way,but then that is what a free country is all about.

I think you are reading an awful lot into a post that stretches to all of 14 words.

I also never took allens post to be offensive in anyway.

"Reading between the lines I am making the assumption that the poster is a smoker and trying to stir up a reaction".

No SPG, if you were up to speed you should recall that, like you, allen has posted anti smoking comments in the two previous smoking posts, infact it was allen who started the "A Fortnight on is it working"??? thread.

I cannot see why on earth his post should be deleted, again I don't think he was trying to be humorous or offensive, just stating fact and what lengths some will go to get their own way.

SPG

The title and the post is a sarcastic comment, and you assume wrongly that I am a smoker.I think you thinking it was humourous is quite sad.

`Fraid I can`t see anything offensive or in bad taste other than the suggestion that the original posting be removed.

I can`t see any possible grounds for a mod deleting it, and methinks someone may have made themselves look a tad daft.

hi all

perhaps the title is a bit OTT but not the reporting of the incident which is true and is a sad reflection of todays so called civilised society.

is also inacurate as the score would be 1-3 with the resulting life sentances however they will be able to smoke in jail, hopefully for about the next 30years

The title "Smokers 1 Non Smokers 0" - implies a victory or point scored for those who smoke against someone who dared to complain.

If that was not the intention why use such emotive wording? Why not something highlighting this for what it was - an act of mindless and unacceptable violence.

Happy to be considered "sad" if my thoughts are more for the condition of the poor chap who was shot. What is sad though is that none of this sentiment was conveyed.

SPG do you recall posting

"There appears to be a few individuals who go from thread to thread to antagonise and argue with any individual who disagrees with their opinion. One or two could also benefit from an anger management course!!

The one thing I like about this forum is the balance of opinion. I do not agree with much of what some individual's state however they are entitled to their opinion."

Now here you are, blowing hot at a post that everyone so far considers inoffensive, and is hoping it gets deleted. Now that's not what I call practicing what you preach, I'm sorry.

I agree with Angus and you are making yourself look a tad silly and the more you keep on theres more egg on your face :O(

I have amended the title of this post out of respect for a person simply doing what he was required to do under the new laws.

To have it entitled as some kind of scoreboard is very disrepectful .

Hopefully the perpetrators will be given many years to smoke themselves to death in prison.

Let's wait and see, it looks like it may be a Black on Black shooting.

Afterall I uused to smoke but never went out with a gun to shoot someone in the head if they disagreed with me.

LB - yes I do remember posting that comment - and that was exactly my observation of the opening post.

As you have quoted me I will quote Allens response:

"The title and the post is a sarcastic comment, and you assume wrongly that I am a smoker.I think you thinking it was humourous is quite sad".

The Collins English Dictionary under sarcasm - states "mocking or ironic language intended to convey scorn or insult".

Tha may not be what Allen intended, however Mod 2 would also appear to think so given the change of title.

I think I understand why Mod 2 changed the Topic heading, as a smoker I did not class the original heading as a score board, I hope a non smoker didn't as well.

The point was a person got shot not forgetting this all happened in a Nightclub, where alcohol is served, not that this is any excuse.

Anyway help needed on Saturday it 's my Daughter's 18th birthday, and she wishes me and her dad to go to a local nightclub, well I have not been to a nightclub in years, last time I went you payed to get in and in you went, if you left you could not get in again without paying again, if this is the case it's going to cost me a fortune, but I don,t think I can go all night without a ciggie, will I be allowed outside and let back in?

This was not a "poor unfortunate person seeking to protect others", he was, as I understand, a security person in a nightclub, doing what the law says he MUST do now the no smoking in enclosed public places act is in force, or face being fined for others ignorance and self centredness.
