Hello All,
I have tried to send this earlier, but no go, so apologies if it appears twice. I have just returned from my annual four month travels, and as I was aware that the trip involved a long stay on a site without hook up, I decided to upgrade my solar panels to a roof mounted 140watt job. As I knew that the roof mounting would mean that I could not track the sun, I went for overkill.. The Controller shows battery state and amps being produced, and, even on overcast days the panel was a great success. On the final part of my journey home, I called in to a small CL that did have electric, and found out there, that my water heater was not working and had tripped the switch. As the trip switch is shared by the BCA on board charger it took me a little while to establish that it was the charger that had failed, and I have chap calling next week, to fix/change the charger. As the solar charger works so well and gives the battery a fuller charge than the on board, I wonder whether to bother to reinstate the BCA unit, or just keep to the solar panel? anyone got any thoughts on it?

I have a roof mounted 80 watt solar panel which maintains the battery charge during the summer months but only provides enough charge for led lights, water pump and toilet flush in the darker UK winter months, with no possibility of using the tv.
If the on board charger is expensive to replace or repair you could get a C-Tek for around £70 which you could use via an onboard 240v socket when on ehu as a back up to the solar panel.

Should not be an issue unless you sell the caravan privately in which case you will need to tell the buyer to avoid repercussions. No issue if you sell it to a dealer.
